MTD has ended here in Denmark. at 23.10 I put down my tools and called it a day. The result…hmmm what I expected from a 24 hour build, not bad but a long way away from my normal standards.
The kit is the Hasegawa kit with the eduard PE zimmerit included in the kit. The kit is …well crap is a hard word, but it could have been alot better. The zimmerit however was very good, perfect fit. It was painted with Vallejo acrylic paints, I gave it a wash with artists oils, and finished with some pastel chalks, and I think I overdid it on the pastel chalks, but there is not enough time to change all the things I would like to change, so here it is.
IMPRESSIVE! Can’t wait to see them start rolling in… once the builders wake up!
Been watching everyones progress. Great camo Monrad.
Brilliant Monrad. Well done.
I perhaps didn’t have the time, motivation or mental health to do quite such a nice job. My kit was the Hasegawa too, but just the vanilla version.
And finally…
“Hans and Kurt new they were in serious trouble. The battalion commander had warned them about parking their Tiger in the bad part of Leningrad.”
I know I have let my country down, but I just couldn’t face those wheels.
Thanks to my Girlfriend for painting the little figures, and to Ausf for organising this.
Looking forward to seing the rest of the Mad Tigers.
Just call it a landmine hit that managed to blow every wheel off its axle yet leave the tracks unscathed… [:D] Throw it on a dio and be done with it…
That’s great!
I didn’t think Australians knew about ‘bad parts of town’.[;)]
My original plan was to build one up to the skirts in ice to go with my T-34, so I too could avoid some wheels. Wrong kit and I ended up dealing with nothing but roadwheels…
Thanks for playing along, I know it wasn’t easy for you mate.
Monrad, I just realized I respond to your build in the other thread. Great job! I love the Zimm and camo. This whole thing came about from your comments and you’ve done the MTD a fine service. Thanks Thom.
Monrad: Great rush up job!
Matt: Sorry to hear about those roadwheels. I am sure who ever took them made a killing selling them off to a local junk shop. LOL. I hope his not coming back with a BergeTiger to take the whole tank. He-he-he.
Seriously though I thing you did great, too.
After 18 1/2 hours, I calling a halt to the road march known as MTD here in Pensacola. Although I still have nearly 6 hours to do more, I’m not certain that either my eyesight or my rather unsteady hands could do more good. After 3 pots of coffee, 2 liters of Mountain Dew, and only one meal break, my hair hurts and my teeth itch!
My Revell Ausf E was a pretty decent model to build. In fact, if I had taken my time, this kit could really be built up into a real show piece. Anyway, here are the shots of my build. I appologize for the overhead shot being blurry, but since its only to show the camo pattern anyway, I won’t try to shot 5 more pictures and probably have them all be equally blurry.
Enjoy your modeling…
Robert, you have done a fine job! Excellent camo.
Glad you are calling it quits; hope you can get some sleep after all that caffeine!
18 1/2 well spent hours… Congrats! Looks great…
well i watched with wonder as the festivities began. i watched as the day began and then as the pics began to roll in. fantastic. just fantastic. i realize it isnt over but it is a day well spent all.
joe
Nicely done guys!
Matt, it saddens me to see that there are vandals, even in a war zon!
here is my Dragon, i have been care ful to cherry-pick from the pictures,
as from the wrong angle (side, front, rear) it looks like utter crap.
i need to learn to build better models or take more flattering pictures!
i tried to get the tracks to ‘sag’.
HA!
markings (obviously) done by (twitchy) hand.
the number matches no tank (intentionally) it is in honor of the 24 hour build.
love to stay, but i must now finish the Airfix !!
phroosh- your bad part of Leningrad line made me laugh
Kaput. Je suis claque. Utmattad. Flippin done.
I bamboozelled myself by not checking what kit I had. Caused a frantic search for a subject this morning (seems like last week).
Ended up building a Tunsian Tiger hull the Brits found and used as an Armor test. Problem was I needed to make the tracks into transportation ones and change all the roadwheels, removing the outers and making hubs. What I mean WHAT was I thinking?
After all that I waas getting to a point I was happy with and while the indies were still glistening wet, I sprayed a mist of Buff and blew it. I blame exhaustion and the Warsteiner I was drinking earlier.[:I]
Here’s my entry, I’m leaving it as is. The real tank was completely gutted when found but I don’t know what the top looked like. I just assumed their would be no pioneer tools ar anything else. I ut the turret in the hole upside down to form a kind or bearing race.
Thanks for participating and supporting it guys, I ultimately had a blast and hope you did to.
Some great builds done in a ridiculously short time.
Here are my pics of dragons new kit. I woke up at 5:15 AM and began working at 6 AM. Finished around 4 Pm
I have got to go I post my finishing pic when i get beack. sorry
Rebel,
Love your “proof of life” shot…but is it sunrise or sunset? [:D]
Phroosh,
The bad part of Leningrad makes me think of an old Far Side cartoon by Gary Larson that explored a similar situation but with horses…
ok, i got abt 1/2 an hour of time left,
but truth be told, i packed it in around 11.
here is the Airfix kit.
please send your children to another room
don’t adjust your monitor! that’s what it looks like.
still wanna see it . . .
gluttons indeed.
notice the tracks trying to pull the wheels off?
i should have done it w/o the tracks.
we have most of the other variations!
now for the weird part.
check out the side by side.
two 1/72 Tigers . . .
does it look like the Dragon kit is hogging all the food or what?!?
well, thanks again all!
two pretty sorry builds here. The Dragon due to the hurry.
the Airfix due to a few errors at the plant!
i suppose if i had put all the time into one of them (the Dragon, that is)
i might have made a better showing.
great fun nonetheless.
good night, all.
In with about 1 hr 40 min to spare
I had a few distractions today so I didn’t get as much time with this as I thought I would, But I’m not sure if it would have mattered. This was my 1st run at 1/72 scale, and I think it’s a bit too tedious for my limited skills. I’ll stick to 1/35 for a while.
Anyhow, I did learn a few things in the process. In hindsight, I maybe should have hand painted the camo stripes. The overspray from my airbrush is too out of scale.
