hey DJ. i found another Komet kit. i doubt that this kit, being 40 years old, is the greatest option for a one-day GB. call me crazy, but ive already planned out my whole January 15, 2005. well, from 6 PM at least. man, for once in my life im sorta halfway organized! later.
Jon
Definitely count me in on this one. The komet is a brilliant aircraft - fast becoming my favourite.
I’m currently building a 1/24 (?) scale (45cm wingspan) rocket powered flying balsa wood model. (Made by Aerographics) It’s been modified for radio; micro servos, and micro receiver all sit in just nice. Dunno if it’ll fly though…think it’s a wee bit heavy…might glide like a brick…might have to replace the AAA’s with lithium polymers…boom!
Just finished moving house, so all my modelling stuff has been packed away these past few weeks - and no phone either!
Hey All,
Went to swapmeet/contest in Rocket City today and got the old Heller kit for
a Buck! I’m in now! For a buck I can’t pass it up.
Good Hunting,
G.W.
I was out of town the other day and went to a hobby shop looking for the Academy Me 163 kit, could not find the Academy kit but did find the Huma Me 263 kit and bought it.
After looking over the kit at home the landing gear looks a bit fiddly and may not be a very good choice for Mad Komet Day, I will still get one of those Academy kits.
I also bought a Tamiya 1/100 scale double kit of the Me 262 and Me 163, for its size that little Me 163 looks pretty good except for the pitot tube which is way out of scale, if I can’t get the Academy kit at least I have this kit as a backup.
dj,
You said in the kit list that the tractor in the Heller kit isn’t very accurate. I don’t
have anything that really shows the tractor so could tell/show whats wrong. I
noticied that there is a pe set with parts for the tractor does that correct it?
thanks and,
Good Hunting,
G.W.
GW, not sure what the PE set you’re talking about brings… I haven’t built the Heller kit in over 20 years and at that time, it sure did not come with any PE…
I’m in! I had such a blast with MFD how can I not sign up for MKD!!! I’m going to look for the one of the J8M1 Shusui kits just to be a little different. It only has one wing but does have a canopy to mask. I know my wife will be just as excited as I when I tell her that I’m doing another “mad” build. In fact, she’ll be so happy I may wait until January 15th to tell her.
Well guys, I have good news and halfway bad news. First the good news. I found my Academy kit. Now for the halfway bad news. I looked it over, and can’t keep myself from building it now. Oh well, I’ve got till January to get another one, and that gives me time to make a nice little dio to put it in. Now if I can just decide out of the two ideas for the dio, I’ll be great. Oh, and DJ, you think you could post the link to that resin rocket motor on the first page for me? Thanks
worgoose, mad builds are a lot of fun! Pick up one of the 1/72 scale kits listed at the start of this thread, get your supplies together and clear your workbench or work area. Then at 12:00 AM your time on January 16, 2005 take a picture of your unstarted kit and get to building. The idea is to have your Komet built start to finish before 12:00 AM on January 17, 2005. Post progress pictures along the way if you want and a picture when your done.
We just had a Mad Fokker Day build, you may want to take a look at that thread here to see how a Mad build goes.
