Thanks again S.H. It is coming along.
That camo is nice! Can’t wait for the box trailer.
Gary
Thanks Gary.
Yeah the camo looks terrific! Looking forward to seeing how the trailer comes along.
Thanks Gamera. It is coming along slowly.
“I hope to get some paint on it tonight.”
Failed miserably there. The Stanley Cup final is really cutting into my bench time.
Go Panthers!!!
Hello Gino!
The tractor is done and the build is still very interesting! I like what you are doing with the trailer a lot.
BTW, I wanted to ask you - what kind of unit is 702 MSB?
Good luck with it and have a nice day
Paweł
Hi Pawel. Thanks for the compliments.
“…what kind of unit is 702 MSB?”
It was a Main Support Battalion in 2ID in S. Korea. It is now called the 702 BSB, Brigade Support Bn. They do higher level maintenece, ammo and general resupply, medical treatment/evac, etc…
And that’s tough sledding to doel “right.” That up-close effect where you can see the wet-on-dry paint scheme i nthe original, would just look like “bad modeling” in miniature. So, finding the balance is a delicate thing.
And done very well here.
(Although I’m not entirely sure who would entrust any of the E4 mafia with a belt of live cal…50 ammo . . . [:)] )
Keeping the 5th wheel pretty clean is also probably good modeling, too, as the prototype ‘look’ of “grease everywhere but the release handle where it gets wiped off by grubby mitts,” would make an ugly spot on a pretty model.
That box trailer looks good. I’d be sore tempted to replicate that faded green scheme in the reference photo–but that may be from the too many motor pool examples I’ve seen. Again, painting it in shabby paint might be “accurate” but could also be ‘bad modeling’–dunno.
Thanks Capn. The truck isn’t weathered yet. I’ll wait and weather the truck and trailer together. The 5th wheel will get some grease too. I’m leaning toward a very faded overall green on the trailer, we shall see.
You should know by now that I don’t care about the “bad modeling” aspect as I build for me, not others nor for contests. I like my models to look realistic, not the latest modeling or finishing fad.
Heavy Arty:
Very excellent work. I like where you’re going with this! T.B.
Thanks Tanker-Builder.
I am calling this project done.
For the truck, I gave it a dirty-brown wash then a couple drybrushes of a reddish-dirt color, and then a sandy color. I added grease to the fifth wheel and some scratches and bare metal on the ramps. Lastly, I added Tamiya Smoke as dripped/spilled diesel on the fuel tanks too.
Here it is.

I also added the “Orient Express” decal from the Hobby Link M52 set.

I did similar weathering on the trailer, just a bit heavier to depict it as older. I added black stars and US Army serial numbers to it. The stairs on the back are from a sprue I bought form Hobby DNA (Trumpeter parts service) for the M4 C2V kit.

I also found the “Warpig” decal left over from something and thought it would look good and give it a little character.
Here they are connected together.

I really enjoyed this build and am very pleased with how it came out. Miraculously, all the wheels on the truck and trailer are sitting on the ground too. Another tractor trailer for the shelf.
Hello Gino! Lookin’good! Congratulations on another one finished, that no one else has!
Have a nice day
Paweł
Wonderful job there, Gino!
S.H.
Thanks Pawel. I am very pleased with how it turned out.
That looks great! The camo looks perfect.
Thanks Gamera and S.H. It was a really fun build.
Well!
Now if that the goldurndest fine lookin rig I ever did see! U. S ARMY right? Now what’s next? a fork lift with a pallet of M.R.E’s?
I decided that this one wasn’t done after all. I didn’t like how the trailer looked with the truck. I also received a couple extra parts that I decided to add.
First, I recently received the Hobby Link M818 Conversion set. It is excellent.
NEWS: Hobby Link 1/35 M818 Conversion Set Armor/AFV
In it, are two angle iron braces that go along the frame next to the 5th wheel on both sides. Also, the 5th wheel has a larger bolt plate.
I missed these the first time, so I added them here.

I also decided to make it an Operation Desert Storm tractor. I added the sand-backed bumper numbers from the Hobby Link set and added white coalition chevrons on the doors. I also gave it a dusty/sandy wash.

I also had the excellent Def Model US Army Driver figure from the Gulf War.
I built and painted him in Chocolate Chip camo from ODS from ODS and added an M16A1 w/30 rd magazine to him.

And leaned him up against the truck.

Lastly, I took my earlier M1062 Fuel Tanker and added black coalition chevrons on it and mated them together.

It looks much better to me now as a Desert Storm tanker truck. I am very happy with it.
The former box trailer has already been repainted and remarked as a Vietnam-era M129 and will be mated to a future-build M52 using the Hobby Link M818 tractor parts. The Hobby Link M800 cab and wheels will be used on a future M813 TPU build. The M1088 tractor that was pulling the tanker will be repurposed to pull an AN/TPY-2 Radar Trailer.
That looks great Gino! I love the figure!
