I’m getting ready to do a Dragon M50 Super Sherman but I don’t know about the tracks. The instructions say to paint the tracks steel, but certain pictures I’ve seen seem to show the tracks being black rubber blocks. Other pictures I just can’t tell. Does someone know for sure? Steel, rubber, steel plates with rubber facing?
Any help will be appreciated.
Depends on the type of track the M50 comes with. I’m not sure and don’t have that kit in front of me, but if the cleats on the track pads are a thin wave line (kind of makes a bell shaped curve when looked at from the front), then the track is all steel front and rubber inner surface.
If the outer cleat is a thicker line, then it is all rubber.
Cookie Sewell’s review is for the newer kit of the M51, but the Israelis favored the all steel faced T80 track. Desert conditions can wear out rubber really quickly.

Yup, Have that kit kicking around somewhere. They’re the steel faced ones. Btw, I LOVE how Dragon delt with the track in the Premium release. DS Vinyl band with the guide teeth in styrene. That’s probably the best way to deal with the very tedious double pinned tracks.
… but did you count how many of those itsy-bitsy guide teeth you have to cut off and glue on? Did they give extras for feeding the carpet monster?
Trust me… it’s WAY better than their old track which was all plastic OR the AFV Club option. [:D]
Both of which yield great results but with a lot of work. That track design (specifically the guide horns) cannot be accurately done as a one piece vinyl band. The hollow “light bulb” guide horns prevent it. DML came up with a good compromise in my opinion. But take it as that.
