M4A3 rear idler wheels

Hi Folks,
Were the rear idler wheels on M4A3 Sherman
all metal,or did they have rubber “tires” like the road wheel?

IIRC, they are rubber wheels.

the rear idler is metal, no rubber on it

I believe Sherman’s with VVSS (Vertical Volute Spring Suspension), have a metal rear idler. Sherman’s with HVSS (Horizontal Volute Spring Suspention) have rubber on the the rear idler. I would think your M4A3 should have VVSS on it. Hope that helps.[2c]
