M4A3 76mm

I 've had a Tamiya M4A3 and a Verlinden Sherman turret with a 76mm gun with the muzzle brake sitting in my closet for about a decade now and my son insists that I build it now. My question is will it be accurate just to put this turret on this hull? If not is there a good sherman website I can use for research?

If you haven’t gotten any answers by the time I get home tonight, I’ll do some digging through my Sherman Reference Material and see what I can come up with for ya.

Tamiya’s m4A3 is the late model hull which certainly could come with the 76mm gun. I actually have the same sort of a conversion planned but with an Italeri 76mm turret. One other point is that you’ll want to omit the applique armor plates from the hull because they were used only on the earlier M4A3s.

The T23 76mm turret is a good match for the Tamiya M4A3 hull. Only know that the canvas mantlet cover that’s part of teh VP resin turret hasn’t been spotted in any known WW2 era photos. Very rarely, the mounting hardware is seen but I’ve never come across a picture of the mantlet in place. That being said, one cannot state that the mantlet is wrong per se. Go for it! Late war Shermans are always welcome!

I bought a couple of sherman books and all the pictures of M4A3 76mm with vvss suspension showed them with the 76mm gun without the muzzle brake and no dust covers on the mantlet. I’m sure there is an AM turret available but I don’t know of it ,any suggestions? I guess I’ll have to save the VP turret for a Korean war Sherman.
