M4A1 Sherman

Hi guys, well I finished my second Sherman for my diorama. It’s the Tamiya 1/48 M4A1 Sherman. The driver is my second figure I’ve ever painted. I also replaced the hedges with Seafoam. Hope you guys like it. Sorry for the pics. Daniel

EXCELLENT work on that little figure! I hope I can do half as good a job in 1/35th!

Sherman looks good, generally. I don’t remember seeing the stars centered on the added armor before. Not enough of a Sherman guy to pick out much more.

There looks to be a little too much space between the tracks and the groundwork (which is very good, btw). Maybe glue em or screw em down some to help eliminate that.

[tup] Sure looks good. [:O] I thought it was 1/35.

[;)] The hatch on the side of the turret should be

blended in. [tup] The weathering looks realistic

also and for your “second” figure I think it looks

[:O] pretty darn good too. In my opinion the [tup]

groundwork is [tup][tup] “REALLY” nice and as stated

this baby should be more impressed into the ground.

Take the turret off and drill a 3/16 hole through the

hull floor and carefully put a sheetrock screw through it.

Stick a piece of seafoam or something under there to

hide it and there you go… 30 odd tons!

I concur with the previous praise given. The only suggestion I have is that it’s rare to see stowage items hanging off the sides (the duffle and the jerry can on the left rear) of tanks in NW Europe. Because they’d be scraping and scratching around bushes and trees, they’d be susceptible to being torn away.

Small nitpic. Great model!

Although I’m not sure how common or uncommon it is for stars on the applique armor, they certainly could be found there. I recall one picture which was being cited as an example of the Germans using the stars as aiming points showed a shell hole through the star that was painted on the applique armor. I remember thinking how ironic it was and showed that the added armor really didn’t provide that much help against high powered German anti tank guns.

Well that’s what the instructions. They were supposed to be centered.
