M4A1 Sherman

For my first Sherman build, I wanted certain features on a cast hull M4. I put together my requirements and went looking for documentation. I found a cool group of tanks in the 752nd Tank Batallion (http://www.752ndtank.com/). These guys got some of the early Shermans from the motor pool and various features were found there. They remind me of Pappy Boyington’s group of Corsairs. I modeled the Dragon kit 6048 by adapting the firefly 3 piece transmission, using the indy links from AFV Club, an Academy machine gun, and a Karaya cable. I used tank number 14 for a guide altough it used different tracks and no mud gards. Greg

Very nice job! Keep them coming!

May I offer two suggestions?

  1. you’ve omitted the periscope cover on the commander’s split hatch

  2. the open turret pistol port is a nice feature. However, inside was a lip. See here:

Thanks Roy, These fixes will be easy. I also want to add the handle for the pistol port and I lost that little attachment which holds the idler adjustment wrench in place. Anyone buidling this kit should also add the bolts for the bogie mounts and the transmission to hull. Greg

Good stuff Greg!!
