M48A3 service usage

I wonder for how long the A3 variant soldierd on before they there rebuilt to A5 standard.
Were did they see service after the Vietnam conflict? US Mainland or overseas?
By the way did they carry anything else than the common OD overall paint. I have some kind of memory from the early -80’s that Tamiya showed an Patton painted in a sand and OD scheme in the camouflage and marking section in their annual catalogue.

Most M48A3s went to Army National Guard units during the early '70s till they were rebuilt into A5s. The M60A1 became the standard US Army tank in all areas besides Vietnam, mainly Europe, from about 1970 on. No active Army M48A3 wore MERDC camo.

USMC took a little longer to adopt the M60A1, as they seem to do with everything, and their M48A3s soldiered on into the mid '70s and did wear MERDC (MERDEC, or 4-color Camo depending on which Marine you talk to).
