M42 "Duster" at Corrigan, Texas

I was on my way to Houston, Texas last week when I spotted this beauty sitting by the side of the road in front of the Corrigan, Texas VFW. I had no idea what she was, but determined to find out. On my way back, I snapped a few photos and then did some research online. She’s one of those AFVs you don’t see much about, but Korean and Vietnam veterans would probably recognize her instantly. I haven’t seen one in desert tan before. One of our local National Guard Armories here has one out front in the four color camo scheme.

I first ran across a Duster at Fort Drum, NY in 1984 and 85. They were still in use by the Army National Guard’s 50th Armor Division as short range air defense.

The armory that I was referring to is in Portsmouth, Virginia. They are also an air defense unit but I think that they transitioned to Stinger mounted Humvees or something of the sort. The Avenger, I believe.
