Hey guys and gals, Like Wing-Nut, I have crossed over to the dark side for a bit to complete an armor build for Internet Modeler. Be gentle, its my first armor in quite a while. And the first one NOT done in camo. Its the Academy kit, with stowage from the parts box. Built straight out of the box [aside from stowage]. So any inaccuracies…bear in mind that it was a review.
A couple pointers on detail painting though. The antennas and their mounts should be dark green, not black. The lower portion (below the raised line) of the .30 cal ammo boxes on the rear turret bustle rack should be the same color as the hull (sand in this case) not green like the ammo box. The lower part is a bracket that the ammo can fits into and is permanently attached to the hull. The front and rear round openings on the TOW launcher should be either black or silver. They are the protective foil on the ends of the TOW missiles themselves. They come in both black and foil, depending on the manufacturer. The bags should be all green or camo for the medium ruck sacks (the ones without the 3 small upper pockets under the flap). None come in desert camo and only medium rucks come in woodland camo). Lastly, the tracks should be more of a metal color and be pretty shine. Track that moves through sand gets pretty polished and smooth.
Overall a good job and great for coming back to armor. A few tweaks and it will be awesome. Good job.
Oh man Heavy got you man your going to get it now.[(-D] The truth he eather drives one or works with one so he know a thing or two on them. Some times he can’t let the little things go (HeavyArty [soapbox])but that’s ok as we here all love his insite! so ask him any thing he should know it.
First let welcome you to the trenches (dark side).
Second, getting a pretty good from our resident current US armor “super scale” man, Heavy, is a great complement. Many of us here are into different eras and some of us have expertise in particular eras. His comments would mean the most on a OIF US vehicle (no slight Rob…I would count you in too).
Nice build. The details will come and we are here to help, but overall it still looks good.
If you get into US late VN to ODS, I hope I can help.
Most important is have fun and I hope we will have fun with you here!
Thanks guys. As I said before, this one was for a review. And although I like it, it wasnt my best armor. As Heavy pointed out, the tracks arent right. This one came down to the wire due to other projects. Basically, it had to be in by the 25th so it could go in the March Issue. [so its outta my hands no, litterally] But…I do have an M3 in my stash thats mine, not a review. so I will take these suggestions to that model. Next up is supposedly an LAV command unit. And I am also starting MY Stryker model. With the slat armor [gonna have some PE fun on that one.]
Amazingly, I used to do almost nothing BUT armor. I have a case full of armor. But a friend got me to build a birdy, and I got hooked. I still have a good selection of armor, so this was my “re-introduction”, if you will.
Hey Heavy, or anyone else, do you know of a cheaper conversion for the M925 to make it into a wrecker? [M936?]. I have the 25 and a resin engine, and really want a wrecker. I know someone used to make the actual kit, is it easy to find?
There is no straight kit of the M936 wrecker, though I sure I have seen resin conversions for the Italeri M925 (just too early in the morning and not enough coffee). I Heavy does not get it for you I will remember by lunch.[swg]
The wrecker kit you may be thinking of is the Revell kit which is a 1/32 M816. That kit is OOP but pops up on ebay now and then.
Redleg has it covered. It is Hobby Fan that makes the M936 wrecker conversion in resin. It is really expensive though. I have the parts from an old Renwal/Revell 5-ton wrecker that I may modify to make an M936 wrecker. Someday…
Heavy, thanks for the tag team to finish the answer. This was my first chance to get back with enough coffee in me.
I have a bunch of “Somedays” too. I think that is the eighth day of the week but my calendar only shows seven. I guess we just have to keep on plugging!!
