M24 Chaffee colors...

Recently I’ve purchased the old Italeri kit # 244: 1/35 M24 Chaffee… it’s a beautiful kit, and I wanted to make the Chilean version, but I’ve noticed that this kit comes with the post-war tracks (with the rubber pads), and the Chilean version used the early metallic tracks, and as after market tracks are really expensive, I decided to build it OOB… The kit comes with five marking options:

U.S. Army North West Europe 1944

Esc. de M. - 1er RCC; Indochina 1953

H.Q. Squadron 1st R.T.R., 22 Armoured Brigade 7.th A.D. Germany 1945

Esercito Italiano; Divisione Ariete, 1953 and

Japan Self Defense Force, 1957… all of them, in overall Olive Drab

I’ve heard somewhere that only the Indochine and Japan markings are situable for this thanks, due to the post-war tracks… is that true? and what about an American version from Korea?.. And about the color… I’ve seen photos of american M24’s, and they didn’t seem to be painted in OD, it’s more like a dark green… any suggestions about the color?.. and what about a camouflaged version?.. the only camouflaged version I’ve seen is the Chilean one, but the Chilean Chaffee had apart of the early tracks: 60 mm cannon and different engine grills, I cant build it with the Italeri original release (maybe I can with the new early Chaffee)… Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Korean War into the Vietnam War era, the US Army tended to paint their tanks a very dark semi-gloss OD green. I’ve heard that this was due to units mixing gloss black with the standard OD green to give the vehicles a “parade finish”, but this may just be an old Army tale. I do recall many years ago when I was in the National Guard, we had an M113A1 or A2 that was still a dark semi-gloss OD green with a big old white star on the side. It was used for Memorial Day parades and static displays during open house.
