M1A1HA Abrams

Quick question,
I am new to modeling, and have done a few tamiya pieces. But today I just bought a Dragon M1A1 Abrams. My question is… all of the tamiya’s come in a tan color, but this came in grey. So do I prime the whole thing before I assemble it, or paint as I go. As you can tell, I am pretty new to this. Also, what color is the interior?

Thanks

First of all, welcome to the forum.

Second, I have done the same kit previously. I assembled it without primer and painted it with Tamiya Dark Yellow (about 2 coats) without much problem on the fullness of the color.
Other modelers do priming so it boild down to personal preference. I can assure you however that even without priming, the kit could be painted in appropriate colors.

I have never primed any of my models and they have turned out fine. I do however prime all my photo etch parts.
I try to put together as much of the kit before painting.
Hope that helps.

Oh yea, and keep us posted on your M1A1

Interior is a semi gloss white. Dials, knobs, etc. are a mixture of black and silver.

Welcome to the forums. I do the same as Dwight and Trevor, never prime. I hope you have a better molded kit than I did, my turret wasn’t complete cast. Good luck.

Gotta say I never primed unless I am doing a plane in a all metal finish…which has been 4 years since I put glue to one.
