Can someone explain what the difference between m1a1’s with the bigfoot track and m1a1’s without the bigfoot track? Is bigfoot track just a bigger track?

They are a different style of track. The "Bigfoot"track is T-158 track and looks like this.
They were fitted to M1A1 tanks about the time of Operation Desrt Storm ('90-'91) timeframe. They have a thick, square rubber block on the track face where they meet the ground. They seem to last longer thanthe older T-156 track. Don’t know where the name “Bigfoot” comes from.
Older chevron track are T-156 track and were the original track on the M1 series of tanks. They can be seen on the pic below.

The " Big Foot " track , T-158 , have removable track pads , where as the older T-156 , did not . The old track T-156 , could go 700 , or so miles , then it ( the whole track )had to be replaced . The T-158 tracks are good for 2000 miles or so . Mainly because of the removable rubber pads ( change the pads , not the track ). The T-158 tracks are heavier , about 3000 Lbs. There was tests done on the M-1’s using Germaman Diehl track .But with the German track the M-1’s needed a different sprocket , and mod’s to the roadwheels , so the plan was dropped.

Further to my last , the T-156 , and the T-158 ( Big Foot ) , will fit on any M-1.
