M1A1 Abrams paint question

Dear Tank builders,

Could anyone please inform me as to the colors of the various telescopes,
hatch clear glass, and sensors found around the tank on both the turrent
and main body of the vehicle…

Also I was attaching the mine plow and there are both a hose and a
metal cable which come from it and attach to the hull. what colors are
those please?

Thanks for all of your help…oh by the way…I’m painting the model in
the 2 color Nato scheme for Kosovo 1999…What color would you do the
mine plow in…So far I’ve seen it in nato green or sand…

Thanks,
Tank

Most of the mine plows Ive seen are originally green. Through use first the lower edge, and then finally about to the middle becomes heavily worn showing through to the metal. The metal showing through, or chipped off, kind of starts strong at the bottom and fades toward the middle.
The attatchments are hydralic lines, so they should be black.

The cable is metal and is a release for the travel lock. Contrary to popular belief, the M1’s mine plow is electrically powered and the big black hose is actually a thick black power cable.

Tankbuster 2005: The December 2004 issue of FineScale Modeler Magazine has a good ariticle on making colored glass for modern AFV optics. I am going to try this so I can’t give any information how well it works yet, but the article gives several options. Maybe someone else can comment on actually making this “tinted” glass; particularly for modern tanks…

Thanks for the info guys
