M18 Hellcat Finished (pics)

Hey all, Just did a re-work on my Hellcat and thought I’d post it here… Still needs gear, but thats for another day, I’m a bit tired of this one…

Academy kit 1/35

nice job, how did it go together, any fitting problems or the like?

Looks very well executed and constructed. But, I think you should catch your second wind and add some accessories and maybe a fig or two to really bring this baby to life, such a well built model deserves the extra detailing that will put it over the top.

Steve

Looks nice. I like the subtle weathering of the grilles. Is the gun-breach really supposed to look like that? It seems crooked, but you’d know bette than I. I got the kit, but can’t get motivated to build it. Maybe this will inspire me.

hello again.

Thanks for the comments guys and

Specter - There were no really bad fit problems, though I did leave a few parts off such as the fender skirts (they were removed by a lot of crews). You have to carefully dryfit the rear interier hull peice to make sure everything lines up right and the top hull didn’t want to fit to the lower hull exactly, but superglue and clamping took care of that. The worse pain was sanding off the tool outlines on the hull off without destroying any detail.

crockett - In Time I’ll add some gear and prob put it on a small base…

Tigerman - I used a brown wash to bring out the details on the model, then used a black wash on the grilles to give them depth, I think they turned out very well.

On the gun breach, the Academy instructions show it this way, and the gunbreach is made in a sub assembly and then put into a slot into a block mounted on the turrent and it is offset like that, so without some surgery there is no other way to mount it. I couldn’t find a good photo of one of these so if anyone knows any better, let us know.

The kit makes a great model, but remember to test fit all the main hull parts.

Hey all.

The gun was mounted that way.

Thanks Andy. I forgot you built one yourself.

Looks good! I’m going to have to second Crockett though and say keep going!

Was watching a restoration of a Hellcat yesterday on the Military Channel…listings show that it’s going to be on again today 1600 hrs eastern.

I may need to get me one of these…[:D]along with one of just about everything else. Heh.

No problem.

Easy to forget…most of my work is forgettable!!

Yah right! Your work is excellent. Sheesh, mine is forgettable.

Is it football season yet? [:D][;)] (inside joke) Or should I say basketball season, now that my beloved Blazers got Greg “The Odenator” Oden.
