I am thinking of doing a 1/35 M113A3. It doesn’t seem that they make a 'A3 kit so what advice is out there for a base kit and conversion materiels?
The Tamiya kit is a good starting point. Verlinden offers a number of aftermarkete sets that could prove useful, as well as other suppliers out there. good luck with the project. Keep us posted. -Ed
Thanks, I’ll give em a look.
Best bet is the Academy M113A2 kit. It includes parts like the rear fuel cells and the newer type trim vane not found in the Tamiya kit. There are also the smoke grenade launchers in the Academy kit. The Tamiya kit is a straight up M113A1 and the suspension differs from the A3 with a missing shock absorber.
The laterals were replaced by a steering yoke as well. That should not be too hard to scratchbuild. I did an M113A2/A3 side-by-side comparison for the modeler who wanted to update a kit.

Outstanding photos! You saved me a great deal of trouble with research. I’m a retired Marine, so I have plenty of data/pics of our stuff, but not much from the Army. Thanks much.
Thanks for the pics, Rob; now maybe I can think about finishing that M548.
