M103A1 HEAVY TANK

Hello!

The paint looks good! I like the shade a lot. Good luck with your build!

Paweł

Thanks Pawel! Trying to get that dark olive color without it being boring.

Terry

Yeah, the variations in the olive drab look good!

Thank you sir!

I did some detail painting and added the decals to the hull. I am being careful not to weather too much at a time trying to capture that peacetime/cold war look. Did a little then a coat of future. Ready for the next phase. “TRACKS”

Terry

Looking real good so far! I might suggest some sort of weathering to the turret markings to blend them in and show the texture beneath. Perhaps some sort of wash and/or dry brushing?

Thanks for the suggestion! Those things are coming. I take a rather slow and subtle approach to weathering working in several layers. It will begin to show pretty soon.

Terry

Sounds good to me. I look forward to more.

Let’s weather the turret! I added some pastel powder suspended mineral spirits. Applied some streaking with oil paint. Added some minor chipping with Tamiya NATO Black. Sealed the whole thing with Model Master flat enamel.

Terry

Much better now! Starting to truly come alive now.

Thanks stick!

Again she’s looking great Terrry! Sorry I can’t offer anything but generic compliments but everything just good, can’t single any one thing out.

I don’t know from accuracy, but that wash did liven up the piece for sure! Bob

P.S. the “accuracy” comment is about MY lack of it, not anything done here!

Thank you! I can always see things after I take the pictures.

Thank you!

Terry

The weathering continues with a light dusting of brown pastel powder and then sealed again with clear flat enamel.

Terry

Weathering wheels. I started with a brown powder wash(let dry) then added a dark yellow powder wash to the wheel centers. When dry blended these together with a soft brush. Added a mars black oil wash to wheel tires. When dry sealed with enamel flat clear.

Terry

Terry, I’m really liking the results you’re getting there! So it’s just a wash with brown and yellow pigments added?

Yes it’s pastel chalk powder added to mineral spirits(yeah I know old school).

Thanks!

Old school is good, looks good.

I happen to use the same method…
