I understand the center on the roadwheels should be black, but exactly which part of the center? Anyone have a close-up pic from a model they have done? I can’t find a good pic of a real one that shows exactly what should be black. Thanks.

Technically it’s a clear plastic, so you can see the fluid levels. If it’s a clean tank, the bottom half will be darker than the top half because of the lubricant.
However, in use, the wheel hub gets dirty easily enough, so there’s no need to go to that level.

Exactly what I needed. Thanks, Manic Moran!

It would be good to use the tamiya enamel paint transparent black. It is called smoke actually. I used to shade by model cars’ windshield with it. It will look like oil when viewed from the other side. Just don’t make it too dark.
Thanks, constructor!
Here’s a link to an even closer pic.

Not quite sure about the colour of the retaining nut/washer, though I guess it depends how “dirty” you’re going to make it.
It’s interesting to note the overspray on the edge of the rubber tires on the road wheels and the bare metal on the guide horns on the track.
I just used Testors gloss black in the little jar… thin it out and do it as a wash, turns out fine I think especially after weathering and such!
