M-55 203mm 1/35

Dear friends

Tis my M-55 self-propelled Howitzer 203mm 1/35 “SCRATCH” [:D]. Base on M-47 change suspension.

After this I wait to select solor to painting 1 color or 3 color.

narupol .

Looking great so far. Good job on the scratch work. Can’t wait to see it painted up.

The only issue I can see is that the M55 (as well as the M52 105mm and M53 155mm howitzers) used the chassis and running gear of the M48 tank. Still looks pretty close though.

Ever since I saw this tank at Aberdeen in the late 80’s I’ve been hoping someone would do a kit of it–IT’S GORGEOUS, NARUPOL!! Can’t wait to see it finished!

Hey Narupol, great stuff man. I always look forward to your next project. They just seem to get better.

I remember that Renwal made something looking like this a long time ago. I can’t recall the model. It was nice at that time though. It came out with their M47 with the crew coming out when you depress the cannon.

Sorry Gino but that’s incorrect. The M53 and M55 were based on the M46 and M47 running gear. Early ones used the driver controls from the M47’s while late production vehicles used M48 driver controls. The M52 105mm SP was based on the M41 Walker Bulldog.

Huh, well I’ll be, I remember using one as a 90mm Recoiless Target back in 1982 at Ft. Sill. Never saw one again till now, thought the Barrel was longer though on My Target Vehicle.

Beatiful job by the way, was it hard to get references on?

Good job on the scratch building. Interesting vehicle, I’ve never seen one of those before.

Hmm, according to my references, they were all on modified M48 chassis. Guess it depends where you look.

Narupol’s scratch abilities are to be commended,as you did. While I’m familiar with the 155 he’s making,a like Piece of “Arty” came to my attention in today’s GRT.MOD.'s e-mail today mentioning Their stock of HF.As I browsed I saw a Beautiful M-52 S.P. 105mm.So Gino, can you “bracket” a differant company that makes a kit or conversion of it that doesn’t cost $170 ? I looked through many large & cottage sites to no avail and I’m not yet talented enough to do a scratch like Narupol. If not you, does anyone else have an answer ? Thank you all, rudedog

Pardon me.I meant to refer to narupol’s 203MM. Apologies to narupol & Heavy Arty. rudedog

Sorry, I don’t know of any other kits or conversions for them. There was the old Renwal '70s kit of the M55, but it is long OOP and was pretty weak in detail and accuracy.

Here is what it took one modeler to do to get the old Renwal kit looking great. Wim Vink’s M55. Click on Construction Articles and then M55.

I had the origional Renwal kit back when it was first issued and I believe that Revell re-released it under their Logo - Several years ago, they ran a series (History Makers, I believe it was called) of re-released ships, planes, tanks and rockets from molds in their possesion and this kit was one of them. They pop up on E-Bay now and then.

Wow,that’s an exceptional example of one.Thank you for that site,I’ve not seen it & it looks like 1 to save,as I like multiple reviews[which they have listed] on new kits.I used to strictly go by Perth, til a friend told me to read between the lines on their modest dislike of DML stuff. In my opinion,it has some bearing. So,thanks again Gino & you too qmiester ,for a possible appearance of a Revell one on e-bay. rudedog
