M-19 / M-42 Dusters

Does anybody other than Czech Masters make ether an M-19 or M-42 kit in ether 1/32 or 1/48 scale?

There is an much older Renwal kit of the M42 Duster in 1/32 scale. You’ll have to look hard on auction sites or kit collector shows to find one. Tamiya has their old 1/35 scale Duster kit out from time to time, but it needs serious work to bring it up to speed.

Stikpusher, thanks for the reply. I’ll keep my eyes open for them. We share the same interest. By the way please excuse my spelling of either. It’s amazing what you’ll see once you hit the post key. Opps.

Hey can I ask how you would “bring it up to speed”? I have one in my stash that I want to get around to this year. I’m going to do one in Vietnam with an armored trailer.

The Renwal kit is not worth even trying to bring it up to speed. Very old kit that makes the Tamiya kit look hi-tech. It has been reissued by Revell in the early 80s and by Revell of Germany using the Matchbox label in the late 90s.

It was designed back when model kits were built to be toys and played with in the sand box. The original Renwal issue has spring wire suspension, a feature deleted with the Revell and Matchbox versions.

Easy to find on eBay, look for the Revell boxing (has a photo of the completed kit as box art) for the cheapest version. The most expensive version will the the original Renwal Blueprint series box (blue box) followed by the white box version.

The Matchbox issue is uncommon but should be the second cheapest issue.

The tracks are crude, the drive sprockets are round and the opening hatch hinges are thick and clunky.

Eduard makes a NICE PE set for all the details that need replacing:gun shields, sights, tool boxes, etc. A definite must have for this kit. AFV Club makes individual link replacement tracks and a seperate suspension set for the M41/M42 vehicles. At a minimum, the tracks also should be used- the suspension if you really want to carry on with the madness[:-,] You may also want to look for better pintle mounted machine guns The latest Tamiya release came with a decent M-60 but the .50 and .30 would best be replaced by ones from the Acedemy set. Oh yes, the pioneer tools are molded into the racks that will be replaced by the Eduard PE- replacements from your favorite source (I like Academy’s US AFV Accesory set myself) there as well. None of these sets are overly expensive on their own.

All that and you will have the parts to make a high speed Duster- the rest is up top you. [swg]

AVF Club has announced a M-42 Duster as a future release

This is the news I was hoping to hear. Tanks to all for your replys. May all have a great '08.

How about M19? I was thinking about using the gun system from M-42 and chassy from Chaffee tank to make a Korean war version. Any news on release of this kit?

Only Italeri makes a 1/35 Chafee/ chasis. It would be nice to see them do the M19 and the 105mm SP that both used the M24 running gear. But I have not heard of any announcements about for any of these vehicles. I think there was also a 155mm Howitzer on a M24 suspension. Cant remember either ones nomenclature at the moment.

Yeah but I’ve been hearing about this for awhile. Have they said anything recently? That’s why I was wondering about dressing up the Tamyia kit.

They have had it listed for years. They announced it at the same time as their M41 Walker Bulldog. About the same time as you finish dressing up the Tamiya kit, it will be released[swg]

Yeah thats what I thought. It’s a conspirace I tell ya’.
