M-113 WIP

Well, school is done so now I have lots of free time. I’ve decided to post a WIP of my tamiya M-113. It’s not a complete WIP because I started it a couple months ago. The kit is Tamiya and I also have an Eduard PE set and new tracks.

Here’s the roof with all the little PE tie downs.

All the little parts waiting to be painted.

First shot of my scratchbuilt interior. The color is RAF interior green. Not exact but close.

Had to add some flavor.

Can’t really see much with the roof on but who cares, it was a fun build.

Now I need to build a CD player for these.

I hope you enjoy. Comments and tips are welcome.

Crazy interior work. I love it!

Congradulations on school Vassar-13[tup]

The interior shots look great. The cd’s are wild. It looks like a fun build. Keep posting!

Looks like it is coming along well. The interior color looks pretty good. It looks a little streaked though, did you brush paint it? Also, you are missing some key items on the interior, like the sliding spall liners (see below), and rear-facing squad leader seat and troop seats (they can be removed, but usually are not). If you are only going to have the driver’s and TC’s hatches open though, I guess it would be hard to see the other details.

An M113A3 has some external differences not on the Tamiya kit too. Tamiya basically took their M113A1 kit and added a sprue of A2 parts and the external fuel tanks for an A3 and called it an M113A2 OIF, but the drawing is of an M113A3. If you are confused, apparently they were as well.

The biggest thing missing is the additional armor plates on the front glacis plate. There are 1" armor plates that cover the upper protion of the front glacis. It also needs bolt holes all along the sides for armor attachment points, and a row of tie down points along the hull as well. The rear ramp area is different too. Check out Pavel’s M113A3 to see what you need to add. Academy took care of a lot of the changes on their new M113A3, but still missed the additional armour.

More detailed M113A3 shots can be found at Prime Portal.

Good luck with it.

Thanks for the comments.

HeavyArty: I airbrushed the interior but I gave it a light dusting of sand. I didn’t really do much more to the interior because you can’t really see it all when it’s closed up. Maybe today I’ll get to work on fixing the Tamiya problems.

Looking great. Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Jesse

It’s been an interesting week. I’ll get more updates tomorrow.

Your build is looking good so far. I like the effect of the PE tie downs on the top deck. I’ll have to get some of those for when I build my 113.

I look forward to your updates. [tup]

Good job! keep us updated!

Well, I got a little bit of work done on my model. I added some of the last remaining detail parts and gave it a good coat of primer.

Maybe later tonight I’ll get it painted sand.

Got this thing painted today and started to weather it a little.

I still have some things to add to it. The viewports are gunmetal with clear red overtop. I still need to finish the wheels.

Hey, lookin good so far Vassar, nice work!

Chris,

Thanks Chris, I can’t wait to finish this so I can start my T-34.

Looks lik eit is coming along well. The paint looks good so far. You opted not to add the A3 pieces though. Right now it is an M113A2 w/the external fuel tanks used by teh US only on M113A3. Looks nice though.

Man, I have’t seen one of these since built up since like, 1989 or so?

It’s certainly looking good though!

ON a side note–amazing knowledge that HeavyArty has, isn’t it? [#toast]

Heavy Arty: Yeah, I know, I kinda just want to get this thing finished and off my workbench. I didn’t really want a complicated build. Thanks for the information though. If I decide to build another (which I will) I will be sure to make the right changes.

What is a good way to get the proper “dusting” on this so it looks like its been in the dessert?

Sorry, there won’t be any progress for the next couple days. I’m going to be gone to Camp Rotary for some leadership thing.

Well I’m back from camp. I’ll try to get some progress done.
