Does anybody know if the Marines used M-10’s in the pacific during ww II?
or was it just used by the army only.
Six Tank Destroyer battalions served in the PTO: the 632nd (M10), 637th (M18), 640th (M10), 671st (M18), 806th (M10), and 819th (M10). Osprey’s book on the M-10 and M-36 has a chapter on US TD’s in the PTO. That’s about all I know. “It’s not my bag, baby.” [;)]
That doesn’t answer the question now does it, because I don’t know if any of these are Marine units. [D)]
Wouldn’t have thunk it myself. Why waste those nice guns on Chi-ha’s and lack of armor in general?
That’s what I thought too, Tigerman. I would think a Sherman’s 75mm would be sufficient enough to turn any Japanese armor into abstract artwork. [%-)]
Thanks for the answer, I will keep looking, or maybe I could have the first M10 in use by a Marine unit! Thats what modeling is all about, having fun!
all i can see in Concords U S Tank Destroyers in combat is that the uUS Marines still used there M6 37mm GMC and there SPM (Special-propelled Mounts) that were M3 75mm GMC
the M10s were used in the PTO as Bunker busters, the palm tree log bunkers hadb proven themselfs impervious to the 75mm of the sherman
isn’t it true and isn’t an M10’s slightly lighter than a sherman? Something to think about with trying to land everything by smallcraft and getting around on small and swampy roads and such.
Found out that the only units that were used were 767th TD battalion(Army) on Kwajalein and the 637th TD battalion used in Phillippines and on Okinawa.
The tanks were vulnerable against close-in assault by the Japanese which they were good at! So i desided to make the M-10 like the one my uncle had when he served with 3rd armored during WW II .
