is the LVTP-7 by Academy in 1/35 scale any good?
it looks like an old kit…
and what about the M997 Maxi Ambulance, same scale, same company?
Both kits are very good.
The LVTP-7 is a direct copy of the Tamiya LVTP-7A1 with a few different parts to backdate it to the LVTP-7 model. Only downfall of all the LVTP-7 kits is no interior. You could scratch build one though, or wait for Warrior or Hobby Fan to put out there announced resin sets, if you have lots of money to burn, that is. I scratched the interior on my LVTP-7A1, not totally accurate, but it looks good to me.

Here is a review of it by Vodnik: http://www.vodnik.net/pages/amtracs/lvtp7.htm
The M997 Ambulance is also a great kit, and the only version of it available. The Academy HMMWV kits were the best on the market till the new Tamiya HMMWVs came out a couple years ago. They are still great kits. The M997comes with lots of extras and a fully detailed patient area in the back. highly recommended.
your interior looks great!
thanks for the sites
Seriously, HeavyArty, that is one sweet interior for the amtrac! One of these days I’ll get around to doing another one of these and I want to put an interior in it as well. Thanks for the inspiration!
I’ve got the M997 as well, but it’s going to end up as one of my data vans.
heavyarty, when you bought your kit, did it come with english instructions (including color names) and one piece vinyl track? cause I just reallized mine came with indies and instructions completely in korean
Mine was the Tamiya kit, not Academy’s. The indi-link track sounds like a bonus in the Academy kit. Should be able to figure out the Academy instructions, all parts numbers are there. If you are doing the standard ROK MERC scheme, I use Testor’s Model Master Dark Green, and Dark Tan airbrushed on for the main colors, then Sand and Flat Black with a brush for the smaller squiggles.
Here are some of my ROK vehicles:
K200 (Academy):
K163 (Kitbash between Academy K200 and M163 kits):
ROK Checkpoint:
K1A1(Trumpeter):

I also have the Academy ROK M48A5 built that I don’t have any pics of.
Good luck.
wow! you must have done a great deal of research! you’ve captured the rural people (clothes, hairstyle etc.etc.) shockingly well!
great models!
My research was walking out the front gate of Camp Case, Tongduchon, Korea. I built most of these while I was stationed there for a year. I saw these checkpoints all the time and worked with the ROK Army a few times as well. Glad you like them. Thanks.
Good luck with yours.
