Hi all, here is my finished build for the ‘War in the Pacific GB’. The kit is from Tamiya and is motorised. How cool is that? It was one of those kits i spotted in my LHS that cried out ‘Buy me’.
I decided to go the very heavy worn look. This was achieved by 1stly spraying the entire upper airframe with Alclad airframe alluminium, then coating the Alclad with Tamiya clear. That stuff sets like concrete which allows the next step of scraping off the top coat to reveal the ally. I also used Humrol masking fluid to remove larger splotches. Anyhoo, here she is, theres more pics at the GB. Its really worth a look as theres some great stuff being built,
She is a real cracker Guy! The weathering is spot on and very realistic. Very well done. Now report back to the Regia Aeronautica GB before I send Sarge after you![oX)] Rumor has it that there is a litttle Italian biplane making a solo flight over the Atlantic to England as we speak. Destination unknown.[:)]
Thx everyone. I really appreciate the comments. I was tempted to go even further but im sort of glad i didnt. I still may do a zero with bare metal like this famous pic,
Go even farther with the weathering? NO!!! It’s perfect the way it is!!! I mentioned in a post elsewhere that age old adage, it takes two artists to paint a picture, one to paint and one to tell him when to stop. STOP!!! Do the Zero, start fresh with a new canvas!!!
Luft that is an amazing finish mate, truly is remarkable. Wethering is a big challenge for me cause I never really know when enough is enough or have I done too little. I’m in ore mate.
Well, it’s about time! You haven’t finished a kit in what, like a week??? [%-)]
Tell Wingus and Dingus they done a fine job as always. Love that chipping, DEFINATELY gonna try the Tammy clear when I go about it next time! [:D]
As for the photo of that Zero, is that chipping, or a darker green over the Ame-Iro? Usually, the Zeroes didn’t chip much (especially the early ones) as they had a very tough primer under the color coats. Just my [2c].
