Hi all, just finished this 109 K-4 for franks Defense of the Riech GB.
The kit is a Hasagawa 1/48 with Eagle cal decals of Possibly Hermann Graffs plane. He flew a similar G-6. Anyhoo, here she is. The tulip decal on the front sucked big BTW. For more pics go have a look at the GB theres some really good stuff being built.
Man I really like that plane!!! I think it may be the best looking 109 I’ve ever seen (color schemes). I’ve sorta been following that GB just to keep up with what’s going to be about as good as it can get.
Awesome looking build, Guy! Never saw a Messershmidt I didn’t like! I’ve heard horror stories too about that Tulip decal, But you made it look like a sinch here i the end results.[8D]
I’ve a question though…
I know that many of the aircraft designated for National Defense had those bright red striped undersides. But those white stripes on the topsides of the elevators- any idea what the meaning of those are? I’m guessing they aren’t part of the camoflauge, but I can’t figure out what purpose they serve
Guy- Absolutely fantagalucidousness! I love it. Thanks for being a part of the GB, better not stray too far away nwo that you’re done Mister. Who knows, you could probably finish your RA build, another 109 build, and then ANOTHER RA build before I finish my 109. [V]
Excellent work, love that scheme. Thanks for showing how it’s done! [^]
I dunno? That tail looks more like a Q -23-TT5 version produced in lieu of the DB-605 ZZ engine that was designed to comply with the emission control standards of the time!
Wow, thx everyone for all the kind remarks. To be honest you could have slagged it to death and, in my weakened Condition (Man Flu), I wouldnt have been able to fight back LOL.
Manny, I picked this bird as i liked the colourfull scheme of ‘Supposedly’ Grafs plane, and as for the white stripes on the tail, i havent a clue. I just imagined it was for some sort of assembly marker? Probably crappola, wheres Stan?
Desert Rat, those birds with the Red and white stripes underneath were to protect the approach runs of the 262’s as they needed nearly 3 times the distance to land and were extremely vulnerable while landing and taking off. They were also on 190D’s and the pilots were told on no account engage the enemy. I think they were there as just a show of force to be reckoned with.
