Lufty's French Fancy!!

Hi all, ive been at it again in the RA GB (Still time to come and build something) For this build i wanted to do a french Dewoitine D.520 in Italian markings. I was spurred on by a picture in another mag, this one,

I went to my LHS hoping to find the lovely Tamiya offerring, but they only had a kit by, new to me, a company called LTD. It looked ok. The sprue gates were a bit thick but there was lots of surface detail.

I started as i do all my kits with shed loads of references and net trawls. Doing this turned a simple quick build into a marathon (For me anyhoo) The kit fuz was woefull so i bought the Eduard etch set for it. That helped but it definately needed some help,

I started on the floor pan which was the wrong shape to start with so was the pilots seat.

then the fuz sides,

and with some paint,

the dash was a doddle, the usuall Eduard sandwich affair,

missing from the kit was a gunsight. Its name escapes me now, but the french had this strange fish tank looking item as a sight,

feeling blostered by my efforts on the sidewalls, i had a go at making one out of old PE and scrap plastic,

Well that was the insides. It all buttoned up nicely. There were a few fit issues here and there but nothing a G cramp and some superglue wouldnt sort out.

On with some paint. It was a typical 3 colour french scheme but with out the fancy nose paint and tail colours. After France surrendered to the Germans, the Germans found themselves with loads of these little fighters and offered them around on all fronts. They were a decent fighter in the right hands. The German ace, Werner Molders was shot down by a Dewoitine, anyhoo ive waffled long enough. The decals were a mix and match from my spares box with the exception of the top wing decals. I didnt have any of these so i had to buy a kit just to get them…Honest…i had too LOL, Anyhoo, here she is,

Thx for looking,

…Guy

Fantastic stuff, Guy- can’t belive it’s the LTD kit! Your work in the cockpit really amkes the difference, and the finish is Oo-lala!

Cheers!

chuk

Guy, another great looking build.

Nice to see one in Italian colours.

Karl

Yes Guy a great build, the detailing in the cockpit especially! Well done.

Guy: another exellent job! you are on fire this year[;)] LOL

I like the paint job you have done, and the interior work is exellent too!!

Keep up the good work

All the best

Jeremias

Guy-

What can I say that hasn’t already been said? Oh, yeah…

Guy- he’s so cool, he’s an ace and all. I wish I were his son! [:D]

Well done, I was sure by the finished product that it was the Tamiya kit until I read your post. Unreal! [bow]

One word… [8D] AWESOME [8D] oh ! love the gunsight [tup]

regards.

Excellent work on the old kit. Very well done [tup].

Regards, Rick

Guy, that’s awesome my friend! A beautiful finish inside and out, and great attention to detail. If all I saw was the completed build, I would’ve sworn it was the Tamiya kit. [tup] [tup]

Geez guys, you humble me,

Chuck, Cheers buddy, btw you dont happen to have Fritzys mobile no do ya?

Karl, Im on an Italian frenzy at the mo. Probably something to do with my GB im hosting LOL. Come over and have a gander, the waters lovely. I have a couple of pics of a P-38 and a Liberator in Italian markings that come under my swann morton in the near future.

Patw, Thx chum,

Jeremias, always a pleasure to have your imput. Im turning everything i touch Italian in the same way you turn everything Argentinian LOL. Whats on your bench at the moment?

Frank, Good man, have a biscuit. Any more spinners on the go…Or even, Heaven forbid, the rest of the plane LOL.

Ian, Thanks buddy. Are you coming to our model show on the 18th? Its the Vikings show in Dorset. Come on, bring a Lancaster. I may even be judging [:-^]

Rick, Thankyou mate.

Mike, your too kind. The kit is not that bad, you just need copious ammounts of filler and industrial strength sprue cutters LOL. Saying that id buy another, its cheaper than the Tamiya kit.

…Guy

p.s Get well soon Mrs Sarge

Thank you, O Great One. I have an Italian 109 that ought to be ready for paint by the weekend! [swg]

Awesome Guy! The detail you added is great and that gunsight is just sweet. It is cool to see that great looking bird in Italian markings. Very nice! [tup]

Very nice work mate.[tup]

Warhammer, Tango, Thx guys really appreciate the responses. Makes me want to try the Tamiya versio, see how that fares.

…Guy

LOL and always is a pleasure to see your models![:D]

I like the italian birds, they had very interesting (for me) designs, I had a Cant Z-501 halfbuilded somewere on my room (I think maybe someday I will finish it…), I have a 1/72 old airfix SM-79 that my dad build on my display case and I want to build a 1/48 Fiat G-55 in Argentinean colours (Special hobby just had luch the post war service kit with argentinean decals) but I think I will be wait a little for a lower price, now it sells for more than 40 dolars.

In the bech I have a Gloster Meteor F.4 wich I want to finish the next week, since I´m a litte tired of that kit, adapting the resing F.4 wings to the F.1 tamiya kit was a lot of work and I´m not very happy with the result, but…

Well my friend take care

all the best

Jeremias

Jeezze! Guy you can crank them out with astonishing quality! When I grow up I hope I can build em as good as you!

Very impressive stuff! You got some real heavyweight builders chiming in here thinking the same thing I am!

What does this fellow eat for breakfast to come up with this amazing stuff?

Next thing you know you’ll be trying to make an Italian P-38! [:O]

Great looking build, Guy! That was a pretty airplane and you’ve certainly done her justice.

To me it seems like an inspirational salad dressing. You know? French Italian? Built by the English? Oh the wonderment of it all.

I just got the Azur 1/32 scale 520 and she is a nice looking kit! Hope it builds up nice!

Or worse yet, an Italian B-24! [:O]

Hey Guy, great job as usuall. The detail in the cockpit and gunsight is awsome. How you pop these things together so fast is amazing. Whats next a P-38
