Like to know if any use them. Any good, bad comments? How long did it take to get your stuff? They have a Trump F6F-5N for $50 and a mig 17 for $8.50.Both 1/32 > Even with shipping I`m saving about $30!. Please let me know…Harv
Overall, they’re pretty good. I buy a lot of stuff from them and have never had a problem.
Watch the stock indicators - if there is a green “In Stock” listed on the item, this means they have the item in stock and it’s good to go. However, if there’s a blue “available” on the item it means they don’t have the item in stock but it can be ordered from their supplier, usually coming in on their next restock from that supplier, which may be a month or more away. Use common sense when looking at items listed as “available” because there are some items listed as “available” which are known to be long OOP.
Delivery time, via airmail to Australia, on average 7 days. I had one order shipped via surface which took one month from the date of shipping. One item from this order wasn’t available to ship at the time and they subsequently shipped this airmail at no extra charge. Should it be necessary to split a shipment, you don’t get charged for additional shipping.
Note that shipping via surface mail is calculated in whole Kilogram increments, so if you order an item of a particular weight, the shipping charge is constant until the next Kg incremement is reached, meaning you can add a bunch of smaller items and not have to pay additional shipping. (eg. if you order an item weighing 1.2Kg, the shipping charge is for (up to) 2Kg, which means you can add another 800g of items without paying any additional shipping.) On the other hand, airmail shipping is calculated on the exact weight of the item/s in the order.
Payment via CC is made (up front when you place the order) through a secure portal to their banking provider. LuckyModel themselves don’t keep a record of your CC details.
Customer service is great, should you need to contact them. The best means of contact (once you have created a user account) is via the “my request” button on your user profile page. This usually yields faster responses than email enquiries.
Phil, thanks for the great reply & info. Both items are listed as “Available”. So I will keep that in mind. I`m in no real hurry anyway, just for future builds. I think I will go ahead and create an account and ask how long for them to get them in stock. Once again, Thanks…Harv
Harv - I order from them all the time, their 'sales" are just incredible… even with the shipping (which adds 4-6$USD per kit), you pay half or 2/3 of what you would pay in other web-stores.
As mentioned before, prepare to wait months for the stuff to come in… myself, I dont care, I wont build those kits for a few years anyways [(-D]
Couple things - if you have any shipping questions, LOGIN to your account and use the “contact us” button instead of sending an email directly. I get responses within 24 hrs by asking thru my account.
The shipping cost calculations are Byzantine… you have to play around the “weights” and get a feel about shipping costs. If you purchase AM stuff fro mthe free AIR SHIPPING pages… it is INDEED free shipping and you get the stuff in a week! Just dont mix “free shipping” AMs with kits on the cart.
Hope this helps!
Thank JMART. I already created an account and sent my question to them via my account, so I should hear from them by tommorro? And as I stated, I`m in no hurry. Just cant pass up a bargan!..Harv
I’ve bought from them multiple times and always had a good experience. There was one time an order was messed up due to the post office, but they cleared it for me with no problems. With the ground shipping you can really save a lot, but you have to be willing to wait - for the US east coast, ground was 4-5 weeks. I try to buy a bunch at a time to maximum my savings with mailing since they charge by the KG as Phil mentioned.
Harv:
I’ve been ordering from them for years with no problems. Just make sure you don’t choose surface mail, as it will take 3 months, just as they advertise.
Mucker and all else, thanks for the input. Sounds to me Ill give them a try. I want to order 3 Trump kits. F6F-5N, Bearcat and a MIG-17PF. Grand total with shipping $140 and some change.I figure Ill save about $40. But the MIG is not in stock and they said it would take about 4-6 weeks to get it. Now ROLL m. hase the Mig in stock for a few dollars more pluse 2 Eduard set for it ( that lucky dosent) . So I may just split the orders and STILL save a few bucks…Harv
I’ve had nothing but pleasant experiences with Lucky Models.
I had an issue with them once and I contacted the owner, Raymond Chung, via PM on the ARC site…he fixed the issue and sent me a free 48th scale Viper. great dude…
also dont forget LM has a (limited) amount of AMs they usually ship for free via Air, you get those in a week or so. couple of “US”-based brands are more expensive than “here”, such as AccuMin and many Academy.
Academy is based in Korea JMart. Though Accurate Miniatures is based in the US and overseas like Revell and revellAG.
I ordered from Hobbylink Japan last month and recieved my order in 4 days. Hobby Link like Lucky Models do carry both Academy and Accurate miniatures.
My bad on Academy…I forgot what s the other brand thats always more expensive in LM than other online stores…oh well…
funny part is, Lucky models ends up sending 2-3 shipments on one order, as the stuff comes in stock… I just got a second box (same order) with another one to come… I keep explaining to my wife that it is the SAME order! [(-D]
UP DATE on my lucky order. I ordered the 1/32 Trump F6F-5N and F8F bearcat the 1st of this month. Well low and behold the realy nice mail lady handed me both kits today!! Only took a week. Also I did some research on both models and found the best price to be around $75 each. I got them both from Lucky for $133 and that included shipping (about $30) SOOO, I`m quite happy with the whole deal. I would like to thank all of you for your input and I will defenetly order from them again!..Harv
