Love Army's Helmets for Todays Game.

Simple,but pretty cool.

Very nice! Has a kinda retro look to it.

Looks kinda familiar… [;)]

Confused so please inform me. Actually I don’t really care, but… Isn’t that crossed sabre (Cavalry) and shoulder patch (First Air Cav?) kind of specific to a unit?

And the Cadets playing the game no doubt from a unit called "Highly recruited high school stars ".

Bill

The crossed Sabres are branch specific, Cavalry. When the 9 is superimposed on top, then it becomes unit specific, 9th Cavalry Regiment. And yes, the patch is specific to the 1st Cavalry Division. They haven’t been Air Cav since Vietnam. In the Gulf War they were a heavy division again, somewhere between a Mech Infantry and Armored Division. With all the changes since I retired in ‘07 with combat brigades, Strykers, etc. I could only guess at their current configuration. As to why that was chosen to be worn, I’d love to know.

And my hat is off to any promising High School athlete who opts for a service academy and an officers commission rather than civilian schools and a shot at the NFL.

Here is the tale of this year’s game uniform… well, except the why the Cav was chosen…

Didn’t help them play though…

Nope… apparently the Navy’s 60’s throwback uniforms were infused with Roger Staubach’s skills…

There’s an article in the Army Times directly acknowledging that the shoulder patch in particular, and the other insignia including Regimental references, were chosen directly as an inspiration for a 5-7 team facing a 9-2 team ranked 23rd in the nation.

“The big yellow patch does something to an individual that makes him a better soldier, a better team member, and a better American than he otherwise would have been,” Gen. Creighton Abrams said while serving as the commander of U.S. Forces in Vietnam.
