Lou IV Paint scheme

I’m wondering what would be the best way to tackle the Olive Drab at the wing root?

I would going for masking with white tac. I believe in the US a lot of guys use silly putty.

I second silly putty if you’re in the US.

Here in Oz, it ain’t easy to find, so i use U-Tac (ie, poster putty), only problem is, sometimes it leaves oil residue on the paint. From what i hear, silly putty does not.

Alternatively, cut a mask from painters tape and use that.

FYI - i’d stay clear of any form of liquid mask, they tend to lift/flake surrounding paint.

Further to last - is that an NMF finish (but for OD and Yellow?)

If so, then i’ll revise my last reponse as follows:

  • paint the OD first;

  • mask the area to remain OD;

  • black gloss coat NMF areas; and

  • NMF over that.

Having thought about it, it’s best to avoid masking over NMF if you can.

I would just like to say that silly putty will leave oily residue.

From what I remember in the pics it is a softer-edge scheme–not hard-edge…

Looks pretty hard edge to me

When I did a scheme like this I used a hard edge and masked with tape. The tail on my bird was a soft edge however. It came out decent enough…

Here is the first attempt. I cut a templet out of a post it note.
