went down to Ft Knox awhile ago, and saw some very interestings things (new stuff), and some of the old stuff again. Anyway I met the boss down there (believe it or not a Marine!). See a couple Army guys dressed like Marines with black berets!
Later I got the chance to met the boss, and I asked him why they didn’t have that mint condition M46 on display we gave them (this tank had never seen rain or mud, and had on been driven about a half dozen times in it’s whole life). He said it was stored outside (very sad!). I told him about crawling all over that thing, and how we had to knock a hole in a wall just to get it out of there. But alas things didn’t get much better! It seems that all the armor at the Patton Museum is going away to Ft. Benning, so I guess I’d better get a lifetime supply of pics taken very soon!
Now for some things less painfull:
They have a very nice Hetzer in there now
Not sure if it was a 222, 223, or maybe even a 221 armored car with the side door open

Yes, the HET company on post has been transporting the tanks down to Benning. Some of it is in storage and some of it is at the NG MATES site getting worked on in preparation for the move to Benning. Some stuff will remain, but the Patton Museum will become a museum dedicated to Patton and leadership, etc. The Armor & Cavalry museum will move to Benning.
This bugs me for 2 reasons. One, as stated above, Ft. Knox has ALWAYS been the Army’s home of armor, and Benning is for Infantry. Two, my Dad lives 20 miles from the Ft. Knox museum so I go once a year or so when I am home on vacation!
Didn’t I also hear they are moving/relocating the stuff at the ordnance museum in Baltimore? Where are all those tanks going?
I live in Indy and I believe Fort Knox is about 3 hours drive from here. If I can go there for a weekend in April, will it be too late for me to see the tanks or are most of them gone by now. I am into WW2 tanks. This is so disappointing about the move…
The Ordnance museum stuff from APG has already been moved to Ft. Lee. Knox display tanks have been gradually disappearing from displays around post in anticipation for their move to Benning. I do not know the timeline for the museum’s departure. I’ll only be here for a couple more months.
