Greetings all,
I’m not thrilled with the clear plastic lens covers that came with the kit I’m building. It’s a Monogram T-6 in 1/48 scale. I’m looking for ideas to either make better use of the kit part or use something else. I’d like to use the model railroad light lens. I think I remember somebody using clear tape? That sounded interesting but the tape I usually seems a little opaque. Any thoughts?
Thank you
Dave
If you’re talking about landing lights in the leading edges, I’ve had success with making the covers out of clear acetate taken from packages and framed with strip styrene… Haven’t tried it on 1/48th scale though…
If you want to go the tape route get clear packing tape. Staples probably has it. A bit thicker than the frosty stuff. I put the frosty tape on first , traced the panel line aroundthe light area of the wing, stuck that down on the packing tape and cut it all out. Just peel off the frosty stuff.

Hell, that’d work, Wing_nut… That 1/48th? Excellent…
Jawohl mein Hammer… 1/48. [:D]
would you mind posting more pics? it looks great!
im sorry if this is [#offtopic] but just thought you´d like to share that build.

Ah! You’ve inspired me! Here’s the plan. I’m going to lay down that clear packing tape and then cover it with bare metal matte aluminum. I just tried it on a sample wing and it looks pretty darn good. The aircraft is natural finish so I think this just might do the trick.
Thanks!
Dave
