Looking for simple luftwaffe paint schemes

I’d love to build a german fighter, but I don’t have an airbrush, so I’ve always avoided them.

Were there simple paint schemes used by the Germans, or were all of their planes complicated mottled messes?

Hi dans1120, I build German aircraft also, I don’t have an airbrush either. I just use an old #0 brush to aply mottle. I was intimdated at first, but alittle practice has gotten some good results. You might want to try this scheme as your first. GOOD LUCK! Bob

You can also paint a simpler North African scheme without the RLM 80 Olive Green mottle. The Bf-109F-4/Trop and some Me-110s had RLM 79 Sand Yellow on the top surfaces half way down the sides of the fuselage with the under sides in RLM 78 Light Blue. This is about the easiest operational Luftwaffe paint scheme and really looks good with the white wing tip and nose trim. [:)]

Simpler yet, some their pre-war operational and prototype aircraft were painted in overall RLM 63 Light Gray/Green-gray. [;)]

Good luck,
Pete

additionally an early bomber with green upper surface(rlm 71),blue (rlm 65) under.
you can use tape to mask camo pattern anyway so a two color upper camo is not difficult.
