Looking For Reference Photo's of U-Boat Periscopes ?

Hi all,

Does anyone have any good reference photos of U-Boat Periscopes for me to use for the Revell 1/72 U-Boat. I don’t think I’ve ever really seen a good close up pic or diagram of the scopes and I don’t really understand how they look or function. I understand the basic principles of the scopes, but until I started doing research for the Revell U-Boat, I’d never really seen or noticed the unusual shape of the U-Boats scopes with their cone shape, bulbous tips.

I’d like to actually understand what I’m modelling and be able to do the detailing justice when I get to the scopes (I’m getting both the Warhammer resin conning tower set which includes resin scopes plus I’ve just been in contact with Steve Nuttall to get his Brass Scopes), so any help with photos, pics or descriptions would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I’ve had a look all through that sight Jeff but there doesn’t seem to be a good close-up picture of the scopes anywhere.

I did luck out with a guy sending me a couple of good shots of the Attack Scope from U-427 which gave me a better understanding (thanks Dougie!)
