I’m interested in building a large-scale scratchbuilt model of this aircraft (one of my favourite WW2
planes, partly due to the flight sim of the same name!) and need some reasonably accurate plans of the aircraft - side,
top, and front/rear views.
Ideally 1/48 or larger (the model will probably be 1/32 or 1/24) but 1/72 would certainly be better than nothing!
Any of the two-seater versions of the Il-2 would be suitable.
I have a book called “Great Aircraft of the World” which has an excellent cut-away diagram of the Il-2M3, with
almost all the information I need for the model’s internal structure and interior details.
However, unfortunately the plan views in this book are for the Il-10 (the later replacement for the Il-2) which is significantly different in shape in a number of areas, notably the wings and cockpit.
I’ve looked through all my books and can’t find anything more than small “silhouette” plans. I have built the Airfix 1/72 kit of the Il-2 and probably still have the instructions stored away somewhere, but the plans in these will probably be fairly inaccurate (like the kit itself).
Could anyone help me with this? I’d be very grateful for any assistance.
I’ll let you know when I actually start work on the model, it probably won’t be for a while as I
have a lot of other modelling projects “on the go” at the minute.
I have a very good plan from Polish origin dating from 1984,scale is 1/25 (with 1/10
details).if interested please let me know, but i’m not sure that scanning will be a good
solution.The plan is for a Ill 2 m3.
best regards P Medrad
Thanks very much for the offer Techos. However I’m unlikely to do any serious work on the Il-2 for some time, at least
a couple of weeks and probably closer to a month - I really need to finish off some other modelling
projects first, such as the X-Wing!
The plans I downloaded from http://www.airwar.ru , along with the cut-away view in the book, will probably be sufficient for me (the
cut-away shows all the internal structure of the aircraft, and the plans give the dimensions) but if not, I’ll contact you again once I start work on the model.
There are loads of other interesting plans and colour schemes on http://www.airwar.ru, BTW - including some interesting UK aircraft (Whitley, Albemarle, Skua etc).
