I am working on an AMT/ERTL Star Trek Vulcan Shuttle, and I am having a difficult time coming up with a mauve color paint for the base coat. I’ve been to several craft stores and looked all over the internet and found nothing close. When I do come across a company that lists the color, it’s either discontinued or, the wrong shade. I’m hoping someone out there can help. It’s all primed and ready to go, I just need to find the right color.
Another hard color to find is buff, sort of a low saturation yellow. I have made it by mixing yellow and white, but sure would like to find a good one right out of bottle. Someone used to make a good buff, but the whole paint line disappeared.
Buff is frequently needed on ships, especially late 19th- early 20th century, in peacetime liveries (before camouflage and blue-greys). Funnels were usually buff as were deckhouses in many navies.
They did. It was HJ4 in thier “Authentic Line”. I have a tin and used it on my Kilingon Cruiser last summer. It is supposedly HU 68 in their current paint line.
Very nice work on the K’Tinga stikpusher!! That looks like the color I’m looking for. I was at a hobby shop this past weekend but, they didn’t have that particular color in Humbrol. If I can buy it online somewhere, I’ll certainly get some. Thanks, Tom
Thank you ab out my K’T’ Inga! That was a very enjoyable project for me. That Mauve shade is really something to see. Depending upon the lighting it can vary from quite gray to distinctly purple. It is a shame that Humbrol discontinued the “Authentic Line” long ago. They had some super colors there that they no longer make and I would love to find again (along with Pactra International colors- yeah I’m showing my age). Oh if I had a time machine to visit an old hobby shop…
