Ok, here I am shopping online for decals for F/A-18C Hornet in Marines markings in low-vis and what I’m finding available and the selection is very lacking. With an exception to what Eagle Strike and Aeromaster offer there are almost no 1/48 decal sets for Marines Hornet, it’s practically all Navy and most sets I did find had the god aweful colorful marking for the CAG birds. Squadron.com Store was even worse for decals for an F/A-18C Hornet in Marines low-vis markings. Also, I’m find most online hobby stores do not even carry decals. This is appalling!
So, does anyone here know where I can find an online shop with a good selection of decals for Marines F/A-18C Hornets in low-vis gray or black in 1/48 scale? Please let me know.
I’m not sure what they will have for you, but try http://www.meteorprod.com/ They carry a huge selection of stuff from books to detail kits, and they offer a lot of decals. I was looking for some for the CAG bird for the VMFA-224 in 1/32 for the F-18D, but I couldn’t fine those anywhere? Good luck AirMaster!
You can try TWOBOB’s or Cam. I built a R/M F/A-18C and used CAM decals for VMFA-312. The sheet also has VMFA-323 on it. I bought it from Just plane Hobbies or Great Models webstore. I can’t remember at the moment. You can always try evilbay. You never know what will turn up.
Squadron was very limited in thier selection on F-18 decals. Evilbay I’m not sure I trust for decals. CAM decals had a good selection but most of them were Navy F-18’s. Now, Great Models has a good selection just not enough decals for Marine birds in low-vis. I decided to compromise and get decals that have both the color and low-vis. I’m going with VMFA-232 Red Devils on a SuperScale sheet from Great Models.
Picture below shows an F/A-18C in the low-vis scheme I want but I cannot find any 1/48 scale decals for Marine Hornets that have the low-vis decals as they show in that picture. I’m not specificly looking for VMFA-232 low vis markings. I just want decals for a Marines F/A-18C Hornet in low-vis and any squadron will be Ok. Picture is just for refernce of what im looking for and cant find.
EDIT: I know in earlier post I was gonna compromise but I still think there is hope ( and maybe with a little more help you fine folks here [:)] ) that I’ll find the decals I’m looking for.
I used CAM decal set #48-083, purchased from Great models back in febuary. It contains decals for VMFA-312, & 323. Both are low vis except for a little color on the tails. 312 has the orange and red checked stripe and 323 has brown and gold diamond stripes. They are both from cruises on carriers as well. Decals went on well, no real problems. Good luck finding your scheme.
Airmaster, sorry to bug ya, I just saw a new decal set on TWOBOBS website. It’s for VMFA - 122 Crusaders. It has decals for both a CO’s plane and a low-vis one. I think the set is coming out next month at the IPMS nationals. Check out the website, there are pics of the co hornet and of the whole decal sheet.
Try www.mawdecals.com. They are a new company (related to VF decals) specializing in Marine Corps aircraft. So far, they have numerous sets for F/A-18C and D’s. They are selling out fast, apparently. Good luck.
Thanks Tj. I had totally forgot about MAW Decals, as I recall I came across thier site when I was looking for decals for my F-14B. I have definately decided my bird will be VMFA-251 Thunderbolts. Going try to order next week.
Drake, I saw the decals at TwoBobs you mentioned but I want my bird to be all low-vis ( yeah, I’m stubborn [:D] ) but thank you for your help.
I want to thank everyone that helped me here… you guys are awesome!!!
Lone, you wouldn’t happen to have any pics of their planes would you? The Academy kit comes with the decals for them, but I wanted to do the CAG bird because of the hi-vis markings. Are just the tail rudders painted? The decal sheet has the tiger stripes for just the rudders.
Thanks AirMaster! Those are very helpful. My fiance has a love for tigers, so I figured I could do the VMFA-224 scheme and she might be interested in one of my models[:D] Thanks again!
