Good day!
I recently met a man who was a bombardier with the 73rd Bomb Wing, flying B-29’s out of Saipan. He flew on the “Dauntless Dotty” and “Danny Mite”.
Does anybody make 1/72nd scale decales for either of these two planes? I think the old MPC had “Dotty” but “Danny” may be hard to find.
The 73rd did have the habit of using the Bomb group marking with the name included. Could “Danny” have that? I do not want to ask the person, because I want to surprise him with a model, but I may have to.
Any help out there?
Thanks in advance!!
You might get some info. on the names etc. from http://b-29.org/ - there is a section on the 73rd BW and a list of “nicknames”. Both Dotty and Danny seem to have perished.
‘Dauntless Dotty’, if you didn’t know, was flown by Robert Morgan (pilot of the ‘Memphis Belle’ who passed away recently) when he went over to the Pacific. He led the first raid on Tokyo in this ship.
Here’s a shot of Morgan and ‘Dotty’:

I may have some other shots of ‘Dotty’ if you’re interested. Just give a shout…

Thanks for the info!
Now if I can find some 1/72nd scale decals for either plane, I will be happy!!
Red,
Aeromaster did a 48th sheet which included ‘Dotty’, dunno if they made one in 72nd. Here’s the instruction sheet from the 48th sheet:

You may want to try asking around on Hyperscale if you haven’t already. Go to ‘Discussion Forums’ and that will take you directly to ‘Plane Talking’ and links to other HS forums.
