for an Airfix 1/72 AWACS (RAF AEW1). I recently acquired it for a bargain price with the following written on the box: “missing engine.” I figured, hey, one engine, no problem. However, what should have been written was “only one engine”! What can you do…buyer beware!
Anyway, my inquiry of Airfix for purchasing replacement engines received the response that they do not provide replacements; they suggested I would have to buy a new kit! [banghead]
Does anyone have any ideas for me? Aftermarket engines (CFM-56 type) would be my best bet as I my scratchbuilding is…well…I’ve never done it. []
I am confused (certainly no surprises there): Are we talking about an EC-135 or E-3 or something like that, with podded engines? Or is it an old Navy Tracker with two radials? No, that doesn’t seem right judging from your letter. Am I the only one unfamiliar with what kit this is? I’d like to know.
Hi Sharkskin, it sounds to me like the E3 sentry that he has.
Hi Rbkep.and welcome to the forums. if i am right this kit is the ex - heller mold, have you thought of writing to heller to see if they can help?.
Greg
If you can find aftermarkets or another cheap kit; I’d go that route out of laziness.
Barring that, I would try to make resin copies (never done it myself, but several here have… might also check out the techniques area as well as this link: http://www.hirstarts.com/moldmake/moldmaking.html)
