Looking for build reports on Trumpeter KVII..from FSM workbench or back issues.

I was looking to see if there was any build reviews of the trumpeter KVII. I did a search and did not see anything come up from FSM back issues…

Did FSM ever do a review of the kit? Just wondering

Also, I wanted to do the Russian version, but the LHS only had the German KVII kit. Does anyone know if the two kits are similar other than a few addon pieces…

I think they are but not sure

Check Ebay.Usually KV I and II kits are dirt cheap for some reason.

Thanks…not really looking for the kit as I have one…looking for a review by someone or FSM

Review at PMMS: http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/trumpeter/tr00312.htm

I can give you my own personal review, although nicely molded some of the parts have major fit issues, such as the two large pieces that connect to the lower hull, these are the long pieces that the suspension mounts too, a lot of the plastic needed to be trimmed away for a flush fit(not really a big deal.) When the hull tops were placed in position, there were gaps all around the kits overall hull. The top rear grills are rather chunky, so I opted for aftermarket. The turret fit together nicely, but also had some seams. If you would like I can take a few pictures of it for you since it still hasn’t been painted nor primed, mostly.

I just ordered a KV-2 and would appreciate some shots of what you have done so far. Dan

Np will have some for you later tonight.

Thanks Lex,

I found the same issue on the hull and the gaps…but a good strong clamp, and liquid glue solved most of that problem…

The pix would be great…

Yeah sorry about that I forgot, had a busy day, I will try my best tomorrow.

Any thoughts on the replacement barrel? Is it worth the extra $9.00? Don’t mean to horn in, just interested in the same kit. Dan

Oh its’ worth it not only does it have rifiling, but no seam. pics on the way!!

Here they are, sorry for the delay!

You do good work, I see what you mean regarding the barrel. Thanks for taking the time to post the images.
Dan

and… it looks like an Eduard PE set would help on the grill and such.

Thanks, I used the lionroar set which comes with all the PE and the metal barrel for somewhere around 20-22bucks I think, its the best way to save money.

Thanks for the tip, if a person wants to go with more detail that would be the best. Seems tanks are like planes, the detail extras equals the price of the kit!

Stuart06, I think if you look at the top hatch on the turret you will find the German version has a built up cupula.

Thanks Lex for the pics…

I could not find the aftermarket parts, but did find the barrel packaged seperatly…I will use that instead of the kit’s.

Thanks Thumbs, when I get to the turret, I will watch out for this and see if I don’t want to build up the build up cupula…but I dought I would notice the difference…I rarely show my models in shows, but will post pictures here…

Stuart06, I didn’t know if this thread was still alive or not. Did the kit you picked up have extra parts for the captured version? I was wondering if you have the option of either one or not. Dan

There are a few parts extra…like some jerrycans that would go on the track guard and a multiple rocket launcher thing at the back. I don’t know if those are offered in the standard Russian version. Other than that, it pretty looks the same. I guess I would really find out when I finish and I have extra parts …hehehe

I have to check again but I think I can build the commander cupla without the built up parts.

Sounds like you got extra parts from the sound of it. Ran into the area that doesn’t fit as well … little super glue and slight amount of putty seems to helping. thanks for getting back
