Hey guys
I know this is a stretch seeing as how balsa is not a big thing anymore but here goes. I am looking for a balsa model of a B52. As large as possible. Where can I find one?
Hey guys

I don’t know of a balsa B-52 kit in any scale. But don’t take my word for it.
I have seen a video of a large RC one - yes it flew, and it was darn near the size of a Cessna. Your best bet is probably to find a set of plans and build it using stock balsa and basswood. Not easy, but then this sort of project never is. Good luck!

I’ve never seen a balsa B-52 in kit form, and I think I would remember, as I’ve done radio control stuff for a long time, since the 70’s. It might make an interesting slope soarer. I think you are going to do some scratch building.
Ok. So what is the largest scale B-52 kit produced, plastic or otherwise?
They had a 1/48 Vac form one on ebay, awhile ago.
Are you looking to fly it or display it or do you want to build it in skeleton form? There are plans available and a company called Kit cutters that will cut a “Short Kit” for you.
Wow! I never knew a 1/48-scale B-52 kit existed, vac-form or otherwise. Even in 1/72-scale, a model B-52 is huge! If I built a 1/48-scale one, I’d have to move to a larger apartment.[:D]
Check out a balsa-model company called Guillow (I probably screwed up a little on the spelling, but it’s close, anyway). I’ve bought a few of their kits in years past and shipped them to a friend in Hawaii. I don’t recall ever seeing a B-52 offered by them; I think they make mostly World War II planes, but still, it’s worth a try.
There are plans available, but mostly for r/c stuff using foam. I did see one of those vac kits built up, and just toting it around must have been a logistical nightmare !
No B-52’s…but I offered to give away a Guillow F4U with vac parts that I rescued from the trash. Didn’t have any takers here, though. I hasn’t really been started. I haven’t gazed upon it in 3-4 years, it’s stored at my sister’s home in NY. Next time there I plan to bring it here.
The scale is quite large…wingspan appeared to be about 3 feet! And the balsa looked very dense and solid.
I don’t plan on having it until spring…but if someone really wants it I can get it shipped here and FWD it.
Model Expo store at www.modelexpo-online.com carrys the Guillows balsa wood planes and a lot of other balsa wood and other wood type kits, tools and supplies. I didn’t see and B-52 kits there, though.
Hope this helps.
That’s a really cool idea, Jeaton. It would be a great slope plane.
I saw a thread on RCgroups.com where a guy is scratchbuilding an EDF B-52, largely from foam. It’s coming together really nicely. Wish I had a link, but can’t find it again.
