Hello all,
I have never built a naval model. I have been building aircaft and a little armor for the past 15 years. I am wanting to build a sub. I would prefer to build a modern day sub but a German U-boat from Revell at my LHS did catch my eye.
What would you suggest I build for my first sub and where can I get my hands on a kit? I would like to have a US and Russian sub to start my collection. I am familier with Revell kits but who else makes a good sub kit? Trumpeter? Dragon?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve
There is a Finescale review of the Trumpeter 1/144 Seawolf.
Pros: Excellent subject, good fit
Cons: Misprinted decals (“Submaine”)
I’d like to make that sub, yeah.
Dragon’s Sub Kits are a good place to start. Do a little research and they’ll look right.
They’re newer 688i kit the USS Hampton is the correct kit to do this class boat. Stay away from their Older Los Angles kit.
Hey there,
Just wanted to provide you with a review and pics of a Dragon kit I build in 1/350 for an Ohio class boomer.

She was a fun build and not too expensive if you can track down a kit…
Enjoy,
