Looking for a Su-100 Pic

Hey all,
I’m looking for a pic of an 1944-45ish Su-100 soviet tank that has a wide white strip down the center length of the tank.
I have one from the front view, but I don’t have references for the marking that should be on the side.
Any help would be cool. It looks cool and I wanna paint that scheme.

Hey VTRockin

I’ve seen a lot of photos of the SU-100, but I don’t recall seeing one with a stripe down the center. I will join in the hunt to try to find one though.

Just so that we are all on the same page, is this the vehicle in question?

I’ll be surprised if any other view of this vehicle exists, but who knows, maybe it’s out there somewhere?

Oooh…and my 1000th post! [party]

That’s the bad boy.

So what do you guys do if you wanna replicate a tank like this, but don’t know the side marking?
Don’t attempt?
Make a best guess and don’t worry too much about historical accuracy?

Kykeon - Man you are a human encyclopedia [tup] Truly amazing.

IMHO, exactly.

It’s entirely likely that if one had the stripe, so did many others. That stripe was ordered as markings on Russian tanks entering Berlin, I believe–although it might have been in others as well? Anyway, as there were undoubtedly many, many SU’s of all caliber in that area, I’d look at this as a relatively ubiquitous marking for that time.

I’d mix up some of the kit numbers and put them on, and dare anybody to prove you wrong![swg]

I’d try to find another vehicle, any other Russian AFV of the period for that matter, that sports a similar paint scheme and see how it compares. The only problem, I’ve never seen one quite like this. I’ve seen wide, vertical white stripes as a winter camo in a forested area, but never a single stripe. I’ll take a look and see if I can find anything like this in my books.

As the doog has stated, I wonder if this is a aerial recognition marking? These were usually done as bands around the turrets and a cross on top, but maybe this is a unique variation?

Ha! Look what I just found on ebay!

Somebody tried the same deal…looks like they used the stock decals from the kit and came up with side markings.

I’d hate to copy, but that looks nice.

Well, there you go!

Nice looking model too…

The white crosses painted on vehicles were for identification during the Battle of Berlin. There are probably numerous variations of this.In most pics I have seen, the white paint was just slopped on.Extremely crude but effective.I wouldn’t bother with decals.Have at it with a brush.

I have seen this scheme but it was early in the war, say around winter of '41 around Moscow and it was on an SU-85, not an SU-100…as I recall it was for air recognition…will try to find pic and post…
