Looking for a B-47 StratoJet in 1/48

Hallo,

I have looked over the web for this bird, and haven’t found a B-47 in 1/48 or 1/72. Im trying to do some rescreach on this bird and find a model kit, I’ve looked in my local hobby shops and haven’t found one. So if anyone could lend me a hand or two, and help track down a kit of a StratoJet. Thanks [:)]

Hasegawa has done the B-47E in 1/72, it’s almost always around. Here’s a review:

Herr Feldmarschall.

I picked mine up on e-bay for $20, which is only $5 less than MSRP, but, it wanted it for my SAC collection, so…

I was a bit disapointed with the size of the thing, considering its going on display with a B-29 (1/48) B-36 (1/72) B-58 (1/48) and B-52 (1/72). But I see it was only classed as a medium bomber anyway. Not much around on e-bay at the moment, one ratty old Aurora kit of unknown scale, and another Hasagawa kit that is part of a 5 kit package deal from one of those drop-it-off-and-sell-it type of places.

After reading that kit review on modellingmadness, you might change your mind anyway…

Good hunting…

The only B-47 in 1/48 on the market that I am aware of is made by a company called Sanger- out of the UK

Looks to be vacuform w/metal parts and would take quite a bit of work, Lots of scratch building, definitly not a Tamiya or Hasagawa throw together.

There are several out of production Revell kits of the B-47 that are nearly always available on ebay. The Hasegawa 1/72 version and the Minicraft 1/144 versions show up on ebay fairly frequently. I have built the Hasegawa 1/72 and it is a fairly decent kit despite a few inaccuracies.

Thanks guys, this bird isn’t that easy to find. But I found one Hasegawa kit on ebay, it was 21.95 plus shipping. And this ebay store I got it from has alot of model kits, its called MegaHobby.

Try searching under B-47E on Ebay. There are usually lots of kits available for the 1/72 Hasegawa kit. If all else fails, my local hobby shop has the last release of the kit and they do accept mail orders : http://www.arkansasweb.com/onetrackmind/

I built the kit many moons ago when it was released with orange stripes and Weather Service markings. The latest release has SAC markings for the 380th BW (I think).

Or go to the Megahobby link at the top of this page (below the menu bar) and enter “B-47” in the search box. [swg]

Yeah I got the B-47E model, my brother is doing a B-52 in coldwar SAC colors. And Im going to do this StratoJet, if there isn’t one already started I was to go start a SAC groupbulid.

Dhenning, there was a weather service model? Haven’t found any pictures of that.

Phil_H, Today was the first day I went to it. It has a nicely large section of aircraft, and I found a B-52H model. I’ve never seen one of those in 1/72, this summer Imight get it thow its price is a little high.

They released the kit in the early 80s in weather service markings. Blue sash with Weather on it and flourscent orange stripes. Same kit though-no added sampling scoops or any extra parts to my knowledge. Had to steal the SAC sash and shield off of the Monogram B-1B from the early 80’s to make it a SAC bird.

The SAC group build sounds like a great idea! Have several different 1/144 and 1/72 projects waiting for my time and have bought every decal sheet with a SAC badge and milky way that I find at any shows!

You can still find the older AMT B-52H kit on Ebay occassionally. That kit included a chrome dome paint scheme, although I understand it isn’t the best fitting kit in the world either!
