Looking for a 75mm howitzer

I have a dear friend who was in the second wave of D-Day in a Tank Destroyer Battalion.

He shot a 75mm towed howitzer. I have been able to purchase the motive power, an M3A1 half-track but cannot come up with the right howitzer.

I see many 75mm and 105mm PACK howitzers but none that look right with a long barrel. I did see a model from Armorscale but don’t know if it is close or not?

Anybody got any ideas? [bnghead]

IIRC the only 75mm howitzers used by US forces were the pack howitzer, and a couple SP versions. Mounted on a half track (T30 HMC) or on a full tracked carrier (M8 HMC).

TD battalions were armed with the towed M6 3" AT gun – a flat trajectory weapon for killing tanks. It makes no sense that a TD unit would have a bombardment weapon such as a howitzer. Is it likely that your vet friend has his equipment mixed up? Like the other poster said, the only 75mm howtizer was the pack, used as infantry support.

The M6 is available as a conversion from Trakz or Best Value Models or Kendall (now defunct). It’s highly likely that DML or someone will come out with one soon.

So sorry to be so long in reply but I was googling. [:P]

I did find out that I was off base and the M5/6 is the correct one. Now I know what a howitzer means! [blkeye]

I was able to find a nice kit for the M6 from Millicast in England, but in 1:76 scale.

I am still looking for 1:35 to go with the M3A1, but I was unable to find anything by going to Trakz or Best Model. Any other help would be most appreciated.

I do plan to call Dragon as I know they took the 105 from a tank and and added a carriage. Now if I could get them to do the same with the 75!! [t$t]
