Hey everyone, I just got back from… well i guess u could call it a long vacation from modeling, anyways I was just thinking about what armor I should build, and I couldn’t come up with anything. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should build? I have no particular prefrence at the moment… well as long as it isnt a Merkieave or how ever u spell it, I dont really want to build that tank again. I just want the model to be a semi easy, enjoyable and good for someone who needs to make sure they still have some skill left
Welcome back Airbrush,
Why not try Tamiya Humvee Armament Carrier?
Welcome back Airbrush.
Perhaps if you look over the “What Kit to buy” thread I started a few weeks ago (should be on page 3 or 4 of the Armor Forum), you might get some good ideas.
Based on your comments and also WIPW’s comments, I’d give the DML Kettenkrad a miss at this time [:p]
Happy Modelling
Peter
Welcome back Airbrush. How about a German Opal blitz truck.
Try the Academy Tiger I with the interior. I LIKE kits with interiors! It’s a fun build and you can have a good time with color schemes inside and out!
Ron.
Hey airbrush, welcome back.
A smaller kit with fewer pieces is a great way to get back into the swing of things, and you will be finished quicker
post some pics though
the Tamiya Panther G is a nice and easy kit
Stay away from the Tamiya T-62A I just did , I don’t think it really falls under any of your needs. Other than that I have only a few armor builds under my belt right now. The Tamiya M4A3 Sherman was a nice one though.
my vote is for the T34
lawrence did in the November FSM. Weekend build, simple and an excellent warm up to get going again.
Mike
My vote is for the Tamiya T-55 or Trumpeter “S” tank.
I might go with the panther, I havnt built it since i was like 9 yrs old, but I would like to try it out again. any other suggestions??? thanks everyone
I would go with either a Tamiya Panther or a T34[;)]
Revell’s 1/72 Merkava III, a brand new kit, is supposedly amazing. It’s also cheap. A good way to start in something new or different…
Sounds like your in the same boat as me, 20yrs out of modling!!
last build was when i was 16.
went a bit over the top and got a 1/16 Tiger full option but got a bit worried i wouldnt do it justice. So have been doing a Panther G late with Aber detail. I think its a good start not to hard not to easy.
A sturmtiger is next then on to the big one!!
About any of the newer generation of kits should be a good build. Tamiya has lots out there, DML (Dragon or Shanghai Dragon) has many, but beware of the individual link tracks…they are nice, but they are a lot of work, Sherman’s are way bad, I guess, and Academy’s new “with interior” kits are nice. Just don’t do what I do and get caught up in buying a bunch of photo etch details, until you’re ready for them.
Good luck, welcome back!! We’re glad to have you here!

- Find something that YOU like
- Find something that’s good right out of the box (fit/finish/detail/accuracy).
Like WWII ? Try Tamiya: Stug IIIG, Mobelwagen, Panzer IIIL and IVH, Marder III or IIIM, Wespe, early/mid-production Tiger.
Try AFV Club: Hellcat
Like Modern? Try Tamiya: Japanese Type 90 (probably THE best kit out of the box), Leopard 2A5, Russian T-55.
Try Trumpeter: Swedish Type S-C. (The “B” isn’t quite as detail-oriented IMO) or the British AS-90.
Try AFV Club: M41 Walker Bulldog
Just a few suggestions; let us know how it goes.
