Hey all,
I’m SUPER close to finishing my first 1/32 scale masterpiece ( at least thats what i tell myself)
I have finished the aircraft the base of the diorama the groundwork the ramp which the plane is on, everything, except the grass, I can’t think of a good way to put it down over the bumpy surface ( btw its the grass that comes in a package thats just really small particles)
Please help me finish this thing!!!
it might depend on what materials you’re using for the “bumpy surface” however, the most common method is diluting Elmer’s white glue with some water. Dilute it enough to flow over the surface with a brush, sprinkle on the “grass”, and then blow off the excess. by blowing off the excess it will cause the grass to stand up.
It might help to know what kind of material you’re using for the groundwork, and also I’m assuming you’re using static grass?
hope it helps!
Sorry my bad I’m using celluclay as a base and I’ve already laid down the dirt that comes in a plastic bag that you sprinkle, thats the same type of grass too the almost power kind that you sprinke into place… Thank you for your help hopefully I can get this done
if it resembles small blades of grass chances are good you have static grass (or some version thereof) and the method I mentioned will work just fine. just apply as menitoned earlier and then drybrush the color on.
If it’s the shredded foam stuff, like model railroad guys use, it wouldn’t look right with the scale you’re talking about. I haven’t bought any static grass in a long, long time, but you might look into it if the railroad stuff is what you have.
hope it helps and post some pics when you have it done!
It turned out great thank you for the advice it really did help

glad it helped. i like the weathering you’ve done!
Nice job ColGray…
The diorama composition is very well done too
Something to consider - another way to replicate “tall grass” is to look into Woodland Scenics products. They have all sorts of tall grass selections.
I think thats what i got is woodland scenics only problem was that i grabbed the bag that makes bushes instead of grass [:$] but i guess it worked out for the better…now it looks like europe right after winter while the snow is still melting…or at least thats what it looks like to me [;)]
ColGray,
Awesome, totally awesome! ~JS.
Now get that vignette to a contest ASAP Grasshopper!
Save room on the shelf for a few awards
Seriously excellent job on the aircraft, base & accessories.
