Lodestar completed

Here’s the Classic Airframes Lodestar in 1/72, which I recently completed for the Liberation of Western Europe GB.

Hey bondo,

Nice lookin build indeed… How is the classic airframes kit in general?? How was the over all build?

Thank you for sharing!!

Flaps up,

Mike

Thanks for the comments. Those deicing boots NEED to be repainted.

OK, my one complaint is that except for the wings and fuse halves, there are two of just about everything else- tailplanes, engines, cowls, l/gear etc. etc. So you pay almost $ 70 for a whole lot of plastic that doesn’t get used. But it is a craftsman kit.

Actually I hated it because it was too hard for me, but I perservered for almost a year and saw it through to the end.

I only hope I get better at modeling. Thanks again.

Well done Bill! I applaud you for your perseverance to see this project through to the end, no matter how tough it was. Good on you my friend! [^]

Never seen this one built up before. Nicely done.

Regards, Rick

Very nice job.

Very nice! I always liked the look of that Lockeed design. I have an old Hudson kit I might get to someday.

But now, let’s get back to that T-2!

Fred

Bravo, Bill! Very nicely done! Those “boutique” kits like CA and FM are a challenge, to be kind! You have done an excellent jog with this one, and your perseverance shows! Also, kudos on the selection of the subject - the Lockheed twins are some of my favorite piston birds and I have around 20 various iterations of them in the stash! Thanks for sharing!

Now that looks hauntingly familiar to me for some reason? [:O]

Another beautiful build that captures a unique look. I missed this one some how and it is a cool surprise! [tup][8D]

nice build.

Very nice work on the Electra. Isn’t that the same basic bird that Amelia Earhart was flying when she got lost in the Pacific?

Good looking Lodestar there. What other options were there with this kit? There was an entire series of aircraft based upon the basic airframe with the main variation being in the engines. The Lodestar at the Travis AFB museum is a C-57.

Darwin, The Amelia Earhart plane was a Model 10B, The Lodestar was based on the Model 18 which in essence was an enlarged version of the 10 that was designed for use as an airliner. There is a whole family of aircraft based on the basic Model 10 design including the Hudson, Ventura, Lexington and Harpoon. The basic shape of the wing design can be found in a wide variety of aircraft as well including the P-38 and Model 749 Constellation.[C):-)]

Thanks everyone for the comments. I can’t tell what the other options are from the instructions, as they must belong to a different boxing. Nothing that looks like a Hudson, but different engines and tails and l/g. I’m no Lockheed expert.

Edit: apparently I’m REALLY not. According to Modeling madness this is a Hudson kit with a new fuselage and wings!

By the way, I’m incorrect, it’s a Special Hobby box, not CA. It’s been a while so I had to go finf the box.

Thanks, Bill

Its okay. I was just curious as too which of the series could be built from these molds. The series ran from the C-56 to the C-61 so thats six different aircraft.

Nice job, Bill. I find it very hard to go back and finish problem kits (like the C-46 still waiting to get some love) but it seems like a high proportion of my favorite subjects are come in challenging form. Also, the longer I work on the more opportunities there are for me to do brilliant things like drop something on them or lose parts or … (you fill in the blank)

I dislike the fact that I can relate wholeheartedly to your rant! HA!

…about that Lodestar model, “nice job”! Excellent subject!

Thanks, John. Lately I’ve developed a knack for something that has in the past made me chuckle when i heard of it: losing the instructions!

I’ll take them to work to scan, or to the computer for a research session, or… and boom! gone!

Now like you do I’m sure, I have a bigger pile of downloads, half eaten decal sheets, instructions, etc. spread all over the place than I do plastic. Currently missing, the instructions for the Revell “Mission” series T-2 tanker. I’m trying to screw up my courage to ask Fred (Onyxman) for a scan.[:I]

Rant, Moi? Oh, now we have a new candidate for blockhead of the month. Big baby that one, too.

Thanks, Trexx and I appreciate your sense of humor.

Nice job, Bill, and on a not-so-often-seen aircraft…now where’s that Antonov ? []
