[?]Am reading Anne Morrow Lindberg’s book, “North to the Orient”, (about time! It was first published in 1935). They used a Lockheed Sirius for the trip. Does anyone know of a kit for this plane? I have early Cleveland Models plans for the ship, but would be nice to find one in plastic.
The Sirius, like many aircraft of the “Golden Age of Aviation”, is not represented in the injection molded model kits available. I have not seen any vacuum formed models of this aircraft either. Most of the aircraft between WWI and WWII are not represented in kits.
By any chance do you know the address of the new company that has the old Cleveland Models plans. The last thing I heard was that a Company in Indiana bought the old plans and dies from the heirs of the company founder. rangerj
Years ago there was an article in one of the modeling mags (I’m not completly sure, but believe it was FSM) on converting a 1/48 Lockheed Vega (the AMT kit??) into a Lockheed Sirius. It was a major operation since the Vega is high winged and the Sirius is low winged. You might check the FSM index for the article.
Ranger… Thanks for your comments. I was afraid no one had put that aircraft into kit form. I have about a dozen Cleveland plans from back when Packard was advertising them. That was in “Model Builder” and “Model Airplane News”. I’ve not heard of a new company with the plans. Possibly they’re in the same publications? I hesitate to mention ,surrounded here by plastic, that I’ve built several Cleveland aircraft from the plans. The Supermarine Spitfire racer with pontoons made a terrific model. I think I might try the Sirius.
Not that it helps now that Williams Bros. have gone out of business, but weren’t they planning on coming out with a Sirius? Maybe someone will pick up the molds.
