I use Microscale Micro Mask which should be available at most Hobby Shops or on-line suppliers. It doesn’t leave a residue. You peel it off, may have to use a toothpick to gently get it started.
Parma also makes a liquid mask. Since I’ve only used it on one kit (the current project F-22 Raptor) I can’t compare it to other manufacturers of liquid mask. I’ll be trying Microscales next, though.
One thing I’ve found with the Parma stuff is that:
I’m hoping that the Microscale stuff is a little better.
Thanx, I’ll look for the microsol stuff.
Rebel, not Microsol, that’s a decal setting solution. Made by the same company, but it’s Micro Mask.
CaptainB, I only use enamels and have never had a problem using it on a painted surface. Acrylics may be another story, so I would test it first on a scrap piece.
I’ve made the switch to acrylics. I got tired of the difficult cleanup of enamels…that and the smell.
I’ve tried a few and found that liquid mask or liquid friskit from art stores works great. I used it in multi layers to paint camo on a Jump jet without a problem.
If you apply it on the thick side it comes off in large sheets. Any small residue can be removed with masking tape. You might want to let acrylics dry a little longer before using the mask, but I have gotten great results on acylic and enamel.
Ambroid Liquid Mask worked well for me. Like the other products mentioned, you need to lay it on with two coats, but it trims easily, once dry, and leaves no residue.
Regards,
Mask-It EASY, available from Micro-Mark, works pretty nice.
